Position Overview

Zanaco Bank Plc is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following job aimed at contributing to the Bank’s strategic vision, in the CEO’s Division under the Treasury at Head Office – Support Functions:

Role Description

JOB PURPOSE

The External Funding Senior Specialist is responsible for developing, managing, and optimizing strategic relationships with external lenders, including Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), commercial financial institutions and investment partners. This role ensures access to diverse, cost-effective and fit-for-purpose sustainable external funding sources aligned with the Bank’s growth strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Executive Head – Treasury and Investments, the following are among the key job responsibilities:

Relationship & Stakeholder Management

· Establish, strengthen, and maintain productive relationships with external funders to support the Bank’s funding strategy.

· Serve as the primary liaison for all engagements with DFIs, commercial financial institutions and investment partners.

· Coordinate due-diligence processes, information sharing, and negotiations with funders.

· Represent the Bank in funding-related meetings, partner assessments, and external engagements.

Funding Strategy & Execution

· Support the design and execution of the Bank’s external funding strategy to ensure diversified and sustainable funding sources.

· Identify and pursue new funding opportunities aligned with sectoral priorities.

· Lead the preparation of funding proposals, term sheets, and negotiation of financing terms.

· Monitor market trends, pricing benchmarks, and global funding conditions to guide decision-making.

Transaction Management

· Oversee end-to-end execution of funding transactions, from initial engagement to disbursement.

· Ensure timely coordination with legal, compliance, credit, risk, finance, and treasury teams.

· Manage all reporting and covenant compliance requirements for external lenders.

· Maintain updated documentation, facility agreements, and funding pipelines.

Risk Management & Compliance

· Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and funder conditions.

· Monitor and assess funding risks (refinancing risk, concentration risk, FX exposure, maturity profiles).

· Support stress-testing and liquidity planning related to externally sourced funds.

Monitoring, Reporting & Analysis

· Prepare and present periodic reports on funding status, lender engagement activities, and pipeline performance.

· Maintain an up-to-date database of all external funders, transaction terms, and relationship histories.

Track utilization, repayments, covenants, and the overall performance of external funding portfolios.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

· Full Grade 12 Certificate with five (5) Credits or better including English and Mathematics.

· Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or related field.

· Professional qualifications (ACI, CFA, ACCA, ACT, FRM etc.) are an advantage.

· Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Corporate Finance, Treasury, Funding, Investment Banking, or Structured Finance.

· Demonstrated experience engaging with DFIs, ECAs, or international financial institutions.

· Strong understanding of debt funding instruments, credit processes, and financial structuring.

  • Strong financial analysis and modelling abilities.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks affecting bank liquidity and funding
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and negotiation skills.
  • High level of professionalism and relationship management capability.
  • Strong project management, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver within strict timelines

  • External: Government Agencies, DFIs, Commercial Financial Institutions (Local and International) .
    • Internal: All Internal Business Units.
