Job Description


TB COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION OFFICERS (2) Copperbelt and Northern – Two years Contract.

The TB Community Mobilization officer is an integral part of the provincial TBLON project personnel comprising of staff from CIDRZ and Afya Mzuri in the respective designated provinces, whose overall role is to lead Afya Mzuri’s contribution towards the creation of an effective community response to TB demand creation, case finding, treatment support and prevention aspects on the USAID TBLON project being implemented in partnership with CIDRZ and CITAMPLUS. The officer will be responsible for providing day-to-day provincial community and district level specialized technical guidance on proven approaches for community engagement with the goal of increasing uptake and utilization of TB services.

Reporting to Project Manager/TB Technical Advisor.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide technical supervisory support to CBVs ensuring that data is captured correctly in various TB registers at the facility.
  • Work with the community structures of local communities’ health workers’ teams or CBVs to take a lead in TB prevention, treatment, care and support service delivery, including documentation and reporting of community TB care activities;
  • Lead in the implementation and coordination of the TBLON demand-creation strategy, active case finding, prevention and treatment; including aspects of advocacy, community and social mobilization, to improve project outcomes.
  • Lead in the preparations of provincial workplans for all community mobilization activities but are not limited to capacity building of Community Based Volunteers and prioritizing high impact activities.
  • Coordinate the roll-out and effective use of project and NTLP-approved approaches, communication tools and materials in the Afya Mzuri designated province.
  • Establish networks and partnerships to enable sustainable implementation of community-led health promotion activities.
  • Provide current approved information and work with local community partners to ensure: increased understanding of TB, increased demand for services and increased participation in effective service delivery by relevant stakeholders.
  • Effectively and efficiently provide tactical guidance to community teams on the engagement of key community stakeholders such as chiefdoms, religious and other community leaders to increase demand and access to TB services.
  • Ensure standardized practices in making referrals and follow-ups including documentation on beneficiaries referred to further services are adhered across the facilities within the province and inter-provincial.
  • Ensure that M&E related data is captured and reported on time to the supervisor, including the documentation of success stories and best practices.
  • Implement and adhere to Afya Mzuri and TBLON project’s personnel, financial, operations and fraud management policies.

Qualifications, Minimum Skills and Experience required:

  • Diploma/Degree in Public Health, community development, social work or any related field.
  • He/She must have 1 – 2 years of experience in community mobilization, prevention, treatment, care and support interventions, delivery of high impact TB services.
  • Experience working with Community Health Volunteers will be added advantage.
  • He/She should be able to provide technical supervisory support to Community Based Volunteers and TB Facility Focal Point person, ensuring that data is accurately and correctly captured in appropriate TB registers.
  • Must be able to represent TBLON project in provincial and district level TB meetings.
  • Able to conduct data quality assurance on quarterly basis.
