GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Systems Administrator will play a critical role in managing and maintaining the University’s servers, workstations, and software systems. This position requires strong technical skills and a proactive approach to system administration. As a Senior Systems Administrator, you will be responsible for tasks such as server configuration, patch management, backups, and ensuring the availability and performance of servers, workstations, software installation, user management, and troubleshooting system-related issues. You will work closely with the IT team to ensure the availability, performance, and security of systems and servers. Your expertise will be essential in troubleshooting issues, implementing upgrades, and enhancing the reliability of our IT environment. Your goal will be to ensure that the Universities’ server and application infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages and maintains the organization’s servers and other critical systems such as virtualization (VMware) and storage areas network (SAN)
Responsible for the management of Active Directory user accounts, permissions, and group policies.
Responsible for Operating systems patch management using appropriate technologies such as Windows Server Update Service.
Responsible for ensuring all University software are up to date with update patches and running on the latest software version.
Ensure that enterprise anti-virus software is appropriately configured and deployed to all systems
Manage end-user IT support for the University community through automation using suitable help desk technology software
Collaborates with senior network administrator to ensure that servers and workstations can connect to and utilize the network efficiently.
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Proven experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role, with a minimum of 5 years in IT administration.
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field would be advantageous.
Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, Linux), server hardware, and virtualization technologies, scripting, and system security.
Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and security practices.
Relevant certifications like Microsoft’s MCSA or CompTIA Server+ can be valuable.
Able to work independently on projects from start to finish
Accuracy and attention to detail
Outstanding customer service skills
Experience working in higher education

Proficiency in configuring server operating systems, managing user accounts, maintaining server hardware, implementing backup and disaster recovery solutions, and ensuring software applications are up to date.
Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Strong documentation skills for creating and maintaining system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
Proficiency in managing and maintaining user accounts, group policies, and security settings in Windows Active Directory environments.
