BACKGROUND

Kafue Gorge Lower Power Development Corporation Limited (KGL) is domiciled in Chikankata District, Southern Province of Zambia, and is engaged in power generation. In this regard, KGL invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following position:

POSITION: MECHANICAL FITTER (2)

REPORTING TO: SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Execute repairs, maintenance, troubleshooting, and inspections of all mechanical systems at KGL, including turbine generators, bearings, HPU, cooling water systems, intake gates, spillway gates, and other balance-of-plant equipment;
  • Participate in the development of maintenance procedures;
  • Attend plant safety meetings and comply with all safety rules and regulations;
  • Participate in lockout/tagout procedures to isolate machinery for inspection and maintenance; and
  • Provide emergency after-hours support, including call-out and standby duties, as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

    • A Craft Certificate in Mechanical Fitting from a recognised institution.
    • A minimum of five years’ experience working as a Mechanical Fitter in a utility environment or the private sector, with experience in power generating equipment and/or complex industrial systems;
    • Familiarity with Francis turbines and associated equipment will be an added advantage;
    • Willingness to undertake further development of technical or leadership skills through participation in internal and external training and development programmes;
    • Thorough knowledge of the use and care of instruments and test equipment;
    • Initiative and mature judgement, with the ability to make and implement sound decisions;
    • Conversance with, and adherence to, safety rules and regulations;
    • Physical capability to perform all the duties of the position; and
    • Membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).

  • Permanent and pensionable.
