About the Project:

FZS Zambia (FZS-ZM) has a rich history of conservation, having been actively involved in the preservation of the North Luangwa Ecosystem since 1986 and the Nsumbu-Tanganyika region since 2017. Our mission at FZS-ZM is to bridge the connection between livelihoods and landscapes through conservation and enhancement efforts. We are dedicated to the continuous expansion of our initiatives, broadening both our geographical reach and our thematic focus. These endeavours are made possible through FZS core funding, international government partners, and the contributions of foundations and private donors.

Your Tasks:

As FZS-ZM continues to expand its activities, we are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Senior Human Resources Manager (SHRM) to lead our HR department and join our team. The SHRM will play a pivotal role in providing high-level support to the Senior Management Team and ensuring the effective human resource management of our projects with regard to overseeing the recruitment process, designing company policies, and setting objectives for the HR team. To be successful in this role, you should be familiar with HR technology, including payroll systems and applicant tracking systems.

Ultimately, you will ensure our company attracts, hires, develops, and retains qualified employees.

The position will be based in Lusaka, Zambia.

Responsibilities

  • Set objectives for the HR team and track progress
  • Create an HR team and provide leadership and managerial supervision.
  • Develop an FZS ZM country-wide HR strategy that aligns with the organisation’s regional and global aims and objectives
  • Design and implement company policies that promote a healthy work environment
  • Support and suggest improvements to the entire recruitment process
  • Host in-house HR events
  • Assist with the administration of employee benefits and compensation as outlined in HR policies.
  • Discuss employees’ career development paths with managers
  • Monitor HR metrics (e.g. gender, diversity and inclusion; turnover rates; and cost-per-hire)
  • Organise learning and professional development programmes
  • Ensure HR team addresses employees’ requests and grievances in a timely manner
  • Maintain HR procedures that comply with labour regulations
  • Develop goals for the HR team and monitor progress.
  • Create benefit plans and remuneration packages.
  • Evaluate the budget and financing for the Human Resources (HR) department.

Your Profile

  • MSc degree in HR or Organisational Psychology or Public Administration, or any other relevant social science-related certification
  • 10+ years’ experience with 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven work experience as a Senior HR Manager or similar role
  • Hands-on experience with Human Resource Information Systems, Human Resources Management Software (including payroll systems and ATS)
  • Excellent knowledge of Zambian labour laws
  • Knowledge of International Labour laws is an added advantage
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Leadership skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including the ability to build coalitions, negotiate, and manage conflict situations
  • Ability to foster healthy employee relations
  • Professional and approachable personality
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask, manage many deadlines, and meet them.
  • Strong facilitation, organisation and planning skills
  • Excellent abilities to work effectively with a diverse team
  • Problem-solving and decision-making attitudes are required.
  • Ability to respond swiftly to challenges and opportunities in a dynamic environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (up to 50% of the time), sometimes to remote locations
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential
