CABI seeks to hire a Research Support Officer to support the implementation of CABI research and development activities in Zambia and other areas of operation of the CABI Southern Africa.

THE ROLE:
CABI seeks to hire a Research Support Officer to support the implementation of CABIs research and development activities in Zambia and other areas of operation of the CABI Southern Africa.

Key Accountabilities:

Support the implementation of defined field and lab activities on fall armyworm, tomato leaf miner.
Support in the rearing of fall armyworm and experiments related to Metarhizium rileyi and fall armyworm baculovirus at CABI labs and field sites, and at partners site and in communities.
Engage with communities to disseminate IPM methods for fall armyworm.
Support youth engagement and gender activities in communities.
Data collection and entry into the computer, and safe keeping of hard copies of data sheets.
Contribute to preparing manuscripts and communication materials for farmers in various languages.
Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time on the various projects being run at CABI SAC including PlantwisePlus, Plant Health Initiative, ACIAR fall armyworm, etc.
ABOUT YOU:
Minimum of a BSc degree in agriculture or biological science or a related field from a recognized university.
Minimum of 2 years experience in conducting agricultural research trials, setting up demonstration plots, and data collection.
Previous farmer training and communication experience.
Knowledge and Skills
Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
A team player with the ability to maintain a harmonious working relationship with colleagues.
Strong problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot issues related to insect health, and colony management.
Clear and effective communication skills to collaborate with researchers, colleagues, and supervisors.
Good communication skills both oral and written.
Ability to speak different local languages.
Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
Innovative and a good team player.
