MINING ENGINEER  

A Copperbelt based mining and construction company is looking for a Mining Engineer.

Job Purpose:  To provide support to and manage mining operations, create estimates for mining projects, design mines, and assist with mining equipment selection.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assessing the feasibility of new sites.
• Managing budgets and costing and organizing supplies.
• Training and supervising staff.
• Liaising with and advising managerial and technical staff (geologists, engineers etc.)
• Ascertaining extraction risks.
• Using specialist computer applications to maximize planning and production.
• Monitoring and evaluating underground performance.
• Managing construction projects (e.g. to reclaim sites, fill in disused shafts etc).
• Ensuring that operations and equipment comply with health and safety requirements.
• Planning and implementing extraction systems.

WORK CONDITIONS

Travel: is very likely
Working hours: are generally long and can include weekends.
Location: opportunities generally exist where mineral deposits are located

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

• Grade 12 school certificate
• Recogninised Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering
• Experience in working in mechanised & non-mechanised mining operations.
• Minimum 2 years work experience in Mining operations
• Holder of the Zambian Mine Blasting Licence for all operations
• Knowledge in Mine Planning software.
• Member of EIZ
• First Aid Certificate added advantage.
