Job Purpose
The Retail Development and Optimization Manager will serve as a retail operations contributor and influencer in the creation of the Retail Experience strategy. Oversee the development, refinement and execution of retail initiatives that support company strategy and continuous retail excellence. Take charge of growing the retail network, coordinating the development plans for the existing sites and managing the station leases in line with the company growth strategy. Be accountable to source for new potential sites, planning for the long-term improvements of the existing network, monitoring and negotiating all the station leases. Responsible for driving and maximizing retail sales and profitability performance through efficiency and resource optimization for continuous operational improvement

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

  • Set the tone for operational excellence for the retail organization.
  • Oversee the development of policy, procedure and practices that maximize company profitability through labor efficiency and execution excellence
  • Assist the affiliates to analyze the environment and market in order to identify opportunities and threats
  • Assure optimization assistance directly to smaller affiliates.
  • Develop an adapted reporting to follow performance and identify opportunities
  • Review designs, offers and incomes of growth projects and conduct post investment reviews
  • Lead and promote a customer centric culture of results-oriented performance in stores and through corporate cross functional relationships
  • Co-organize quarterly an Optimization Business review with the Retail Manager
  • Lead direct retail performance & store operations team and applicable cross functional partners to plan, develop, evaluate, enhance and implement policies, procedures, and practices to ensure execution excellence, drive performance and to uphold internal and external customer service standards in stores
  • Manages the supplier’s regional tenders and purchasing negotiations in relation with purchasing department
  • Effectively collaborate, influence, coach and motivate direct and indirect reports at varying levels to ensure delivery of exceptional performance and results.
  • Drive the network segmentation and action plan: investment and upgrade, migration, disposal, alternative use of retail sites
  • Assist Operating Units to deliver local, regional and initiatives using the most appropriate business models and agreements
  • Establish, monitor, and analyze key operational performance metrics to drive performance, focus, and improvement
  • Determine strategic objectives for the store and sets priorities accordingly

Primary Areas of Accountability:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in any Business / Commercial field or Engineering
  • Must have a minimum of 6-7 work experience in the Oil industry
  • Must have vast experience in Retail Development and Optimization in the OMC sector
  • Proven history of driving results and performance through building,
    leading, motivating and coaching direct and indirect team to achieve
    objectives.
  • Must have a very good knowledge of the various regions of Zambia
  • Strong ability to successfully interface with all levels and areas of
    the organization, establish close working relationships, and build
    consensus and support for improvement opportunities
  • Adept at identifying operational improvement opportunities and working with others to generate and implement solutions
  • Strong ability to influence without authority
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; strong facilitation, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are required
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments at once and shift work based on business needs
  • Must be a member of a relevant professional body (i.e. ZIM or EIZ)
