Job Description
Levy Mwanawasa Medical University (LMMU) invites applications from suitably qualified, motivated, and experienced professionals to fill following academic and clinical positions in the School of Medicine and Clinical Sciences. All positions are on a full-time basis.
9. LECTURER – OPHTHALMOLOGY
Job purpose:
To provide high-quality teaching, research, community engagement, and clinical care in Ophthalmology. The position supports the training of competent health professionals, advances knowledge through research, and strengthens eye care services in collaboration with teaching hospitals and partner institutions.
Key responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality lectures, tutorials, and practical or clinical teaching sessions in Ophthalmology.
Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students in research projects and clinical training where applicable.
Participate in the development, review, and implementation of curricula in line with professional and regulatory standards.
Conduct scholarly research and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Contribute to departmental, school, and institutional service activities.
Participate in community engagement and professional outreach activities relevant to ophthalmic care.
Complete a recognised medical education or teaching methodology programme within two years of employment.
Qualifications and experience:
Grade 12 Certificate with five credits including English, Mathematics, and Science.
Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Medicine or completion of a recognised Specialty Training Programme (STP-ZACOMS) or equivalent qualification.
A PhD or equivalent qualification will be an added advantage.
Medical degree (MBChB or equivalent) from a recognised institution.
All academic qualifications must be certified and validated by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
Valid practising licence and registration with the relevant professional regulatory body, where applicable.
Demonstrated teaching experience at tertiary level.
Evidence of research activity and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Strong communication, mentorship, and teamwork skills.
Key competencies:
Strong subject matter knowledge in Ophthalmology.
Ability to effectively teach both theoretical and practical or clinical courses.
Research capability with demonstrable scholarly output.
Student supervision, mentoring, and academic advising skills.
Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within an academic and clinical environment.
Computer literacy, including use of learning management systems and standard office applications.
