Our client, a Global Healthcare and Crop Science Innovation company, is seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Junior Site Safety Officer on a short-term contract for 3 months to provide essential support to their team. The Junior Site Safety Officer will ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and the organization’s internal safety standards across operational sites in Zambia. The Junior Site Safety Officer will proactively identify risks, implement mitigation strategies, and promote a culture of safety among all personnel and contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

Site Safety Management

  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with local legislation and the organisation’s safety policies.
    • Monitor and enforce the use of PPE and safe work practices.
  • Maintain site safety documentation including risk assessments, incident reports, and safety registers.

Training and Awareness

  • Deliver safety inductions and toolbox talks to staff and contractors.
  • Support ongoing safety training programs and emergency response drills.

Incident Response and Reporting

  • Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend corrective actions.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Stay updated on relevant HSE legislation in Zambia
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies during inspections or audits.

Contractor Oversight

  • Ensure contractors adhere to the organisation’s safety standards.
  • Review contractor safety plans and risk assessments.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Occupational  Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in site safety roles, preferably in agriculture, construction, or industrial settings.
  • Certification in First Aid, Fire Safety, and HSE Management (e.g., NEBOSH, SAMTRAC).
  • Familiarity with Zambian safety regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between sites.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
