INTERN-MONGU OFFICE ON VOLUNTARY BASIS

Human Rights Commission

The Human Rights Commission is a National Human Rights Institution established under Article 230 (i) of the Constitution of Zambia with a broad mandate of ensuring that the Bill of Rights is upheld and protected.

The Commission is hereby inviting applications from suitably qualified individual to fill the following position

INTERN – MONGU OFFICE ON VOLUNTARY BASIS FOR A PERIOD OF SIX (6) MONTHS

 

Qualifications

 

a) Full grade 12 Certificate
b) Candidates must be Zambian
c) Degree in Social Sciences
d) Knowledge and experience in Human Rights work will be an added advantage

Duties

i. Carrying out prompt, thorough and impartial investigations to ascertain the violation and or abuse of human rights ii. Preparing and submiting timely and accurate investigation reports of human rights violation and abuse to facilitate speedy action and redress
iii. Ensuring and undertaking regular visits to detention and correctional facilities and other places of incarceration in order to ensure compliance with the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for Treatment of Prisoners (Mandela Rules)
iv. Any other work incidental to or connected with the promotion and protection of human rights

The Intern shall work on a voluntary basis and shall not be entitled to a salary. The intern will assist the Mongu Office with office support and other delegated tasks which may require that he works out of station.

The Intern shall only be paid subsistence allowance and lunch allowance where these are applicable as prescribed in the Commission’s Conditions of Service (which are subject to amendment in accordance with Public Service Regulations).
