Zambia Sugar Plc. is a subsidiary of Illovo Sugar Africa (Pty) Ltd Group and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia.  Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Head of Logistics in the Supply Chain Department. This Senior Management position is based at Nakambala and reports to the Supply Chain Director.

The successful incumbent will be responsible for implementing and driving Illovo Outbound Logistics Way and related standards to ensure Logistics excellence, Customer Service excellence and cost optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the warehouses and related processes to optimize cost, efficiency and productivity across the network
  • Ensure contracts are effectively negotiated and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) managed to the benefit of the company
  • Ensure compliance with group minimum standards and processes for Outbound Logistics
  • Monitor the implementation and adherence to warehouse controls, thereby ensuring safety of people in addition to safety and quality of stock
  • Ensure effective management of warehouse resources and processes (people, consumables, material handling equipment and related administration)
  • Engage with Supply Chain Director and Group Logistics to identify issues and opportunities for improvement in facilities, processes, metrics and subsequent activities, and to guide the Logistics strategy
  • Work with Supply Chain Director to implement key metrics and measurement systems to monitor effectiveness of decisions and optimise the supply chain and its resources to deliver on the strategic plan
  • Manage performance of Transport contractors to ensure effective execution of the Logistics strategy through planning
  • Drive in-Country commercialization and customer centricity
  • Ensure talent and performance management are embedded in local ways of working
  • Adhere to safety standards, promote world class safety practices and a culture of continuous improvement

Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc/BA Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field
  • MSc in a Supply Chain/MBA or related programme will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in transport / fleet / warehouse management, with exposure to and understanding of supplier management and rates negotiations within an FMCG environment
  • Working knowledge of warehouse operations, including warehouse processes and best practice, material handling equipment, inventory management and safety requirements
  • Knowledge of customer service operations and logistics analytics is essential
  • Proven high ethical standards
  • Sound business acumen
  • Proven track record in managing and developing teams
  • Knowledge of relevant software (warehouse/logistics) management systems
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant legislative and regulatory standards
  • Member of Zambia Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics (ZCILT) – Mandatory
