Silondwa Engineering Limited invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced members of the public for the following vacant position:

1.0 EXPLORATION GEOLOGIST (X1)

Job Purpose

To study the composition, structure, and other physical attributes of the earth, including rocks and minerals in order to identify and assess the location, quantity and quality of mineral deposits.

Main Duties

a) Investigates the structure and evolution of the earth and its natural resources

b) Plans programmes for exploration of sites for Gold, water, minerals, etc

c) Carries out surveying and mapping geologically promising sites for Gold resource update and extension.

d) Collects and records samples and data from test sites for grade control and stockpile management process.

e) Initiates new methods and policies to optimize performance and ensures adherence to mining industry safety and organisational standards

f) Analyses geological data using specialist computer applications to ascertain extraction, risks and formulates a proper mining as well as operation standard regulations and procedures

g) Prepares reports and updates technical reports and relevant documents to ensure compliance with  mining statutory and operational requirements

h) Advises managerial, technical and engineering staff on the development of reserves.

Education and Work Experience

a) Degree in Geology/ Geophysics or its equivalent

b) 5+ years of relevant work experience

c) Knowledge/experience in Gold mining will be an added advantage

Skills and Competencies

a) Knowledge of a range of sciences and their geological applications

b) Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team of production/operation and engineers

c) Good organisational skills

d) Computer literacy and the ability to analyse numerical and graphical data

e) Good written and verbal communication skills

f) Good data gathering, analysis and problem solving skills
