Peace Corps/Zambia wishes to invite applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Short-term Driver(s)

Location :  Lusaka

Daily Rate:  On/around ZMW 411.00/Day

Estimated Days :  As needed (not to exceed 9 months per year, can be daily, weekly, or monthly contracts based on Peace Corps needs)

Work Schedule  :  44 hours/week

The Short-Term Driver(s) provides support to the Peace Corps program by operating passenger motor vehicles in accordance with Peace Corps regulations and maintains vehicles in clean and serviceable condition. Complete trip tickets or other daily vehicle records as well as maintaining motor vehicles and completing other official tasks as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Perform a check of all Peace Corps vehicles before operating them.
  • Prepare vehicles for up-country trips.
  • Transport Peace Corps staff, Volunteers, trainees, visitors, and other passengers as may be assigned, in a safe and cautious manner and adhere to all road traffic safety regulations and DriveCam policy.
  • Ensure passengers wear a seat belt when operating a Peace Corps vehicle.
  • Ensure that there is a log sheet in each vehicle and that all trips are logged and ensure retirement of fuel receipts and filing of log sheets.
  • Follow all procedures related to fuel management and reporting.
  • Regular refueling and maintenance of motor vehicles and PC generators.
  • Apprise GSO of materials needed for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Collect items and documents from vendors and complete deliveries as requested.
  • Pick up parcels from the Post Office.
  • Assist in bicycle maintenance and repairs.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary school (School Certificate or General Certificate of Education)
  • A minimum of five years professional driving experience for an international agency or a transportation / tour company (operating passenger vehicles, manual transmission, 4×4 vehicles on and off-road).
  • Knowledge of local traffic laws and area traffic patterns including a valid local driver’s license (class C or better).
  • Good working knowledge of English language.
  • Basic computing skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a medical clearance for driving and SMITH driving certification in accordance with Peace Corps Zambia and U.S. Embassy requirements.
  • Possession of basic motor vehicle maintenance experience will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in bicycle maintenance and repair will be an added advantage.
