Job Description
The Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation PLC (ZAFFICO) is a listed and publicly traded company whose mission is to establish and manage industrial exotic forest plantations and agroforestry products to meet demand and maximize return on investment. In pursuit of its mission and strategic goals, the Corporation is now inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the following position:
1.0 CAPITAL PROJECTS MANAGER
Department: Strategy & Business Development
Location: Ndola/Kalulushi
Reports To: Head – Strategy & Business Development
A. Job Purpose
Oversee the comprehensive execution of capital projects initiated by the Owner, including both Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts and non-EPC capital projects. Collaborate extensively with the Owner’s Engineer to ensure that project objectives related to scope, timeline, budget, quality, and safety are met. Manage the EPC contractor in accordance with the terms of the award, and oversee the management of non-EPC capital projects, facilitating the Owner’s responsibilities such as obtaining permits, ensuring access roads, utilities, dependencies, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, ensure that all projects are completed successfully, including acceptance, performance guarantees, and a safe, dependable transition to Operations.
B. Main Duties and Accountabilities
i. Project Governance and Contract Management
Own the Project Execution Plan across scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk, and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE).
Negotiate claims and non-EPC contracts (suppliers, bonds, warranties, guarantees).
Manage project audits and close-out documentation.
Govern engineering management plans, risk plans, action trackers, and progress monitoring.
ii. Technical Integration with the Owner’s Engineer
Direct review of general arrangement drawings, plot plans, design deliverables, and engineering lists (electrical power, civil, mechanical, and automation).
Approve key deliverables: constructability, maintainability, and operability.
Ensure drawings and specifications comply with applicable codes, standards, and the project’s technical basis.
iii. Schedule Control and Site Readiness
Build and control a Level-3 schedule from engineering through construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and performance testing; manage critical path and float.
Secure Owner prerequisites: land handover, surveys/geotechnical data, site clearance, access roads, laydown areas, power and water tie-ins, and statutory permits.
Coordinate logistics windows (port to site), heavy lifts, rigging plans, and customs arrangements where the Owner is responsible.
