Job description:

Purpose

The Artisan, Electrician (Air Conditioning) will safely execute all the Environmental, Equipment maintenance work in Smelter Plant according to the prescribed standards ensuring the safety of self and others.

Key Responsibilities

• This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
• Assemble, install, test, and maintain all environmental equipment like Heating Ventilating and Air conditioning Equipment and Pressurization/Filtration Units using hand tools and power tools.
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
• Connect wires to circuit breakers, control transformers, or other components.
• Inspect HVAC/Pressurization/Filtration Units systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
• Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
• Test the system’s and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
• Maintain current ACU Technician’s license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
• Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
• Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
• Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes
• Provide training and development opportunities for all direct reports on an ongoing basis, with a particular focus on Zambian employees
• Other duties as  instructed by the HT Drive and Environmental Equipment Specialist.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of a Grade Ten (Grade 12)
• Craft Certificate in HVAC/RAC from recognized institution
• All qualification must be certified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) at the point of application.
• A minimum of 3 years relevant experience as a qualified HVAC Technician
