Reporting to the Supervisor, Mechanical, the Artisan, Boilermaker will be responsible for the fabrication, repair, modification and maintenance of heavy steel structure and mining equipment components to ensure safe and reliable operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair heavy steel structures and components.
  • Perform heavy-duty welding on structural steel, buckets, booms, chassis, frames, and wear components.
  • Assist in maintaining the availability of the fleet through effective preventative maintenance
  • procedures.
  • Repair cracks, fractures, and structural damage using approved welding procedures and standards.
  • Conduct gouging, grinding, cutting, and fitting operations.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and fabrication sketches.
  • Carry out structural rebuilds and reinforcement work on heavy mobile equipment such as excavators, haul trucks, loaders, drills, graders, and dozers.
  • Ensure proper pre-heating, post-heating, and heat treatment where required.
  • Inspect completed welds for quality and structural integrity.
  • Use workshop equipment including welding machines (MMA, MIG, TIG, FCAW), oxy-acetylene cutting equipment, grinders, and lifting equipment.
  • Conduct field repairs in open pit or plant environments when required.
  • Identify defects, misalignments, and structural weaknesses in equipment
  • Any other reasonable instruction from the Supervisor, Mechanical

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum of a Grade Twelve School (Grade 12) Certificate
  • Craft Certificate in a technical field from recognized institution
  • Member of EIZ
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience required
  • Experience in a Mining environment, added advantage
  • All academic qualifications and results must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
