Overview

We are hiring!

Our client in the Northwestern Province is looking for an Area Manager to join their team for a job vacancy within the Wildlife, Conservation and Tourism industry.

The Area Manager would be permanently based on the respective GMA and you need to have a passion for Zambia’s people, wildlife, conservation principles and the flora and fauna that makes up the Kafue ecosystem.

Job Description
• Adherence and oversight of the GMA lease agreement.
• Building and maintaining good relations with the local authorities in relation to the said agreement (i.e.  DNPW /CRB etc)
• Building and maintain good relations with the traditional leadership and respective Chiefs.
• Building and maintaining a good relationship with the respective communities.
• Assistance with anti-poaching/security.
• Road building which entails identifying best placed roads for increased access and reduced annual maintenance.
• Annual road maintenance.
• Best fire management practices to be implemented across the managed landscape and the respective vegetation types.
• Completing a build of the tented camp and then the annual management thereof of the said camp.
• Marketing of hunting safaris to achieve market value revenue generation and ensuring best practice hunting standards of sustainable offtakes in pre-agreed zones.
• Arranging (through the respective office) respective hunting license/GMA permits for international hunts.
• Manage contracts, payroll and overtime claims.
• Proactive planning to manage duties & tasks.
• Departmental procurement.
• Team leadership.
• Weekly & monthly reports.
• Annual budgeting and management thereof.
• Working through a Govt Dept, where applicable, to remain compliant at all times.
• To manage the respective employees to ensure that the necessary engagements, time keeping, task allocation and any disciplinary action is done in respect of the Labour Laws of Zambia.

Attributes Required
• To be able to work well with local authorities, traditional leadership and community members.
• Good understanding of the local flora and fauna as well as the associated habits and habitat.
• The ability to produce and present accurate reports.
• Good team player/leader and can work productively with respective staff members.
• Good managerial ability.
• Good planner.
• Work well under pressure.
• Articulate.
• Open minded.
• Good communicator.
• Can live in a remote environment.

Qualification/Requirements
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position.
• Contactable references.
• Zambian PH License (This is not essential).
