Job Description


AGRONOMIST

DUTIES

  • Plan & execute Farmer Trainings and Farm Visits on Our Chili Outgrowers.
  • Communicating for the most up-to-date information on agricultural methods especially on Chili Production.
  • Talking to farmers about cropping practices that will increase their economic return.
  • Comparing new crop cultivars especially Chili peppers against a set of criteria to determine their economic and practical potential, and their limitations.
  • Encouraging the use of best farming practices and management principles.
  • Engaging in crop management practices that are responsive to increasing production.
  • Advocating for soil testing and plant analysis to determine the crop nutrient requirements, then Create and implement fertilizer programs to meet the fertilizer needs of the crop or the land.
  • Participating in training activities, Conducting and preparing information sessions and lectures for farmers, and other interested groups.
  • Talking to farmers about farm improvements, and regulators about practices that promote environmental sustainability.
  • Traveling all over the country to meet farm owners and visit their farms.
  • Visiting fields to collect soil, do Testing samples for nutritional deficiencies, diseases, and other changes.
  • Assisting with plant selection, testing, and sourcing.
  • Producing reports and presenting the results to clients or management.
  • Conducting training on products or techniques through educational presentations.
  • Organise exchange visits for Chili farmers.
  • Preparing business proposals for funding purposes to farmers.
  • Participating in tasks such as report preparation, submittal, and peer-reviewing
  • Ensure maximum operational and financial performance of farmers business by maximizing output with low losses.
  • Assist in setup & enforcement of farm audit plan to ensure growth  of Enterprise.

SKILLS QUALITIES AND COMPETENCIES

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate or its equivalent, with credits or better in English and Mathematics.
  • Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, Crop, Soil Science, Agronomy, Horticulture or any relevant equivalent certification from a reputable institute.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and management skills.
  • Excellent Training, communication and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Experience as a practicing Agronomist is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency and Excellent IT skills, including a working knowledge of presentation software packages, preferably Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Public speaking skills is an extra added advantage

KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Understand and demonstrate the principles of the Company’s Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Capture all operations activities internally and externally on Chili farming.
  • Organise and Schedule Chili meetings and appointments with farmers.
  • Update and manage Whatsapp Groups and all online lessons on Crop Production.
  • Active  interaction with a wide range of Poultry clients and farmers.
  • Ability to organise and implement Lesson Plans for training  work.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • A flexible, proactive approach to work including the ability to prioritise and re-prioritise.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information with discretion and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Love for farmers and scaling humanity is critical.
  • Be ready and willing to travel extensively.
