ACCOUNTING OFFICER

A company specialised in Medical Scheme Administration is looking to hire an experienced and result-driven Accounting Officer to join their Finance and Administration department. As an Accounting Officer, he/she will ensure effective and timely preparation and maintenance of financial information and accounting records related to the Company’s operations.

JOB PURPOSE

To ensure effective and timely preparation and maintenance of financial information and accounting records related to the Company’s operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparation and maintenance of comprehensive financial and accounting information and records including preparation of budgets and financial statements, contracts administration, invoicing, debt collection, receipting, etc. in compliance with financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance of the Company with all legal and regulatory requirements including preparation and submission of all applicable returns and payments such as VAT, Paye, Napsa, Nhima, etc.
  • Developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure timely payments of claims/bills from Health Care Providers (HCPs) and receipts of funds from clients and to always ensure full reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely payments of claims/bills by Health Care Providers (HCPs) that might become due as per Claims Cycle.
  • In conjunction with the Medical Claims Officer, develop and implement procedures for the validation and processing of medical claims/bills and to eliminate any possible financial liabilities to the Company that may arise from the process.
  • Preparing and submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including reconciliation of payment of medical claims/bills from HCP and funds receipts from clients.
  • Participating in interactive meetings with clients and HCP to facilitate confidence building in the medical claims/bills processing and payments as may be required.
  • Undertaking other financial, accounting such as payments to vendors and internal requisitions, and administrative work activities as may be assigned by the supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Computer literate with working knowledge of relevant accounting packages and claims processing software
  • Knowledge of the Companies Act and relevant administrative procedures.
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant statutory requirements such as ZRA Tax regulations, NAPSA, Workman’s Compensation, etc.
  • Self-management and motivation with excellent planning, organising and problem-solving skills.
  • Enterprising, creative, Initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Effective leadership and excellent communication skills
  • Flexible with the ability and willingness to learn and operate in a new environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate with at least 5 credits.
  • Degree in Accountancy or equivalent professional qualifications such as ZICA Licentiate, ACCA, or CIMA
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant working experience
  • Member of relevant professional associations
  • Valid Driving Licence
