Job description:
Overall Job Purpose:
The position of Mobile crane operator is to ensure that Mobile Cranes comply to safety regulations and that defects are reported to enable supervisors to ensure that such defects are attended to, to ensure compliance to regulations and standards. The operator will be responsible for the safe operating of Mobile Cranes supporting maintenance personnel and riggers maintaining operational integrity of the plant & equipment in order to achieve production targets. Reporting directly to the Rigger Supervisor, you shall be responsible for providing the highest quality services and that all services provided are performed within a safe and timely manner.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include;
- Do inspections on mobile cranes and identify defects that can compromise the safe operating such as a crane.
- Do thorough inspections on hoist ropes and identify defects on such ropes.
- Compare information on the LMI system to the information on the manual load chart to ensure the LMI system is in accordance with the load chart.
- Identify work areas and ensure the best positioning of mobile crane to perform lifting tasks.
- Reeving of hoist rope to ensure safe lifting of various loads.
- Basic maintenance on crane-like greasing of pins; boom and under carriage.
- Be able to inspect lifting equipment and identify defects to ensure no defective slings or equipment is attached to the crane hook to perform a lifting task.
- Be a self-starter and able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
- Demonstrate a commitment to workplace safety and the safety of your fellow employees.
- Be accurate, methodical, and practical when performing lifting tasks.
- Follow laid down policies and procedures as outlined by management.
- Compliance JSA’s, Work Procedure’s, SWI’s, etc.
- Ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental Management systems, policies and procedures along with ensuring that all risks have been identified, managed and safe working environment is maintained.
- Enforce good housekeeping practices are maintained by enforcing cleaning up before, during and after every task and not leaving any hazards within the work place
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience required to perform in this job:
- Proven Knowledge and experience on heavy mining units; Mobile Cranes and lifting equipment.
- Trained and certified to operate Mobile Crane.
- The ability to make informed decisions
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s licence
- Certificate as Mobile Crane operator obtained from an accredited institution
