GAUGE READER – LUKULU

Zambezi River Authority is seeking highly motivated, suitably qualified and experienced Zambian Nationals to fill the position of Gauge Reader under the Water Resources and Environmental Management Department on a permanent and pensionable basis to be based in Lukulu, Zambia.

JOB PURPOSE

Responsible for monitoring, recording, and reporting water levels and flow data at designated gauge stations on the Kariba Catchment. The Gauge Reader plays a critical role in hydrological data collection, which is essential for water resources management, flood forecasting and decision-making within the Authority.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:-

1. Monitors water levels, river flow and other hydrometeorological data at assigned gauge stations.
2. Records data accurately and in a timely manner using standard procedures and equipment.
3. Transmits recorded data to the central database or relevant department for further analysis.
4. Prepares and submits daily, weekly, and monthly reports on the data collected.
5. Ensures that gauging instruments and equipment are properly maintained and in usable condition.
6. Reports any faults or malfunctions of gauging equipment and coordinate with technicians for repairs.
7. Adheres to all safety regulations and guidelines while performing duties at gauge stations.
8. Ensures compliance with environmental and hydrological monitoring standards set by the Authority.
9. Keeps the gauging station safe and tidy at all times.
10. Conducts visual inspections of gauge stations and surrounding areas for any unusual occurrences that may affect water levels, such as debris, siltation, or damage to infrastructure.
11. Reports observations to supervisors for any required corrective action.
12. Assists in conducting hydrological surveys and assessments as required.
13. Provides support to the hydrology team during flood events and other emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

General Education:

• Three (3) Ordinary Level subjects with Credits or better

Professional / Academic Qualification:

• Certificate in Water Resources, Hydrology, Environmental Science, or related field will be an added advantage.

Experience:

• Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience or basic understanding of the job
