Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

Zambia Sugar carries out Off-Crop maintenance works in the Factory for a duration of up to four (4) months. The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following Off-Crop positions in the Manufacturing Department.

ENGINEERING QUALITY CONTROLLER – REFINERY AND PACKING STATION x 1 – OFFCROP MANUFACTURING DEPARTMENT (NAKAMBALA)

This position reports to the Reliability Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for detailing the relevant quality control checks under refinery and packing station and ensure that the said checks are being carried out according to set standards.

Key Performance Areas

• Provide oversight of various quality control functions required on key factory key refinery and packing station maintenance activities in the plant.
• Supervising quality control checks on various mechanical equipment throughout the plant, undertaking all quality control checks that will guarantee a full season run – the checks will include analysis of wear and recommendation on actions to be taken to ensure the reliability of the equipment.
• Manage the documentation requirements detailed in the Quality Control Management Plan.
• Report all issues to the Reliability Engineer/ Engineering Manager and the Quality Control Team Lead for applicable activities.
• Engage with various stake holders during execution of the works including ensuring sufficient interface between all parties.
• Strong liaising with Plant owners to ensure buy-in from the team on the required works.
• Train and test artisans pre and/or post off crop.
• Generate maintenance Procedures where they are lacking or deficient in quality.
• Occasionally assist with certain projects, activities and functions assigned by the Management team.
• This is a flat rate-based contract. There will be exceptions where the contractor will be expected to work weekends or additional hours during weekdays.
• Promote and adhere to ABF’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Minimum Qualifications

• Grade 12 Certificate
• Technician certificate in Mechanical Fitting
• Workshop Technology and Sugar Technology experience will be an added advantage
• Preferably 5+ years post experience in a heavy industry environment
• A Trainers qualification will be an added advantage
• Experience in the sugar industry is an added advantage
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time and safely manoeuvre nearby: Able to bend, kneel, squat, crouch, crawl, balance, and stoop
• The consultant should have Engineering experience in Mechanical fitting
• Must have extensive experience in maintenance of equipment such as gearboxes, pumps and conveying equipment from supervisor level upwards and QC experience.
• Must have both verbal and written strong communication skills
• Must possess time management and organization skills
• Must have the ability to work both as a team member and team leader
• Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
