EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
Eastern Water and Sanitation Company Limited was incorporated as a private company limited by shares, under the Companies Act (Cap 388 of the Laws of Zambia) on 12th May 2008. The Company’s mission is to effectively provide safe, adequate and affordable water supply and sanitation services with maximum efficiency to the existing and potential clients in the urban and peri-urban areas of Eastern Province.
In order to achieve its mandate Eastern Water and Sanitation Company is advertising for the position of:
RURAL WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION ENGINEER (GRADE S5- REQUIRED NO: 1)
Reporting to: Technical Manager
JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for the community engagement, planning, design, coordination, monitoring, operating and supervision of all Rural Water piped systems mechanised project and all Sanitation projects undertaken in the Company, in order to ensure that projects completion is within timeframe, cost and quality specifications for improved service delivery and operationalisation rural water and its operational and maintenance for sustainability in the rural set up.
Key responsibilities
Prepares Terms of Reference and specification for plans of works to be carried out by external contractors and consultants Sanitation projects and cooperating partners.
To spearhead the implementation of the company Sanitation Strategy which will include planning and management of the Sanitation operations of the company.
Analyse Sanitation operations and advising on planning, design, construction and maintenance of Sanitation facilities.
Develop Standard Operation Procedures for all sanitation categories (ON SS, FSM, Off SS), and Private Vacuum Tanker Contracts / MOUs.
To supervise the management of onsite sanitation services, to ensure that faecal matter and waste water generated in onsite facility (e.g. soak away Septic tank e.t.c) are effectively contained, collected, transported, treated, and disposed of reused in a safe matter so as to protect public health and the environment.
To undertake Sanitation service promotions and marketing activities in order to enhance and increase Sanitation service coverage and access respectively.
To supervise the management of off – site sanitation service (i. e Piped sewerage system)to ensure that feacal matter and waste water are in compliance with the provisions or standards prescribed by Zambian regulations or laws related to sanitation management.
Undertakes timely computer aided design by using Auto-Cad, GIS and Google earth to design and map the piped water networks to aid network expansion and maintenance works and come up with BOQs engineers cost estimates.
Prepares and implement community Sensitization programs for all ear-marked growth centres under rural water in collaboration with cooperating partners and EWSC Public Relation Officer.
Requirements
Degree of Engineering in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Water, Sanitation, Environmental or equivalent
Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ with a valid operating license.
Valid driver’s licence obtained not less than 2 years.
At least 3 years work experience in similar role or equivalent
Excellent communication and written skills
Ability to work well with all levels of management, build partnerships and direct teams.
