Job Title: Swimming and Boat Operator

Job Location: Siavonga

Department: Operations

Reports To: Director Operations

Job Type:Full-time

Job Summary:
The Swimming and Boat Operator is responsible for ensuring the safety of individuals in aquatic environments while operating and maintaining watercraft. This position involves supervising swimmers and ensuring compliance with safety regulations while operating boats, canoes, or other watercraft. The Swimming and Boat Operator must be proficient in swimming, possess strong watercraft handling skills, and have the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities:

Watercraft Operation: Safely operate and navigate boats, canoes, or other watercraft to transport passengers or perform tasks as needed.

Swimming Supervision: Monitor swimmers in designated areas, ensuring their safety and providing assistance when necessary.

Safety Compliance: Enforce all safety rules and regulations related to swimming and watercraft operation, including life jacket usage and swimming area boundaries.

Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond promptly to water-related emergencies, providing first aid and initiating rescue procedures as required.

Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and inspections of watercraft and related equipment to ensure they are in safe and working condition.

Customer Service: Provide friendly and helpful assistance to guests, answering questions, and offering guidance as needed.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, and maintenance activities related to watercraft and swimming areas.

Training: Participate in training programs related to water safety, first aid, and emergency response techniques.

Environmental Awareness: Promote and maintain a clean and safe aquatic environment, including the removal of debris from water surfaces.

Qualifications:

G12 certificate,

Strong swimming skills and comfort in the water.
Proficiency in operating various types of watercraft.
-Current lifeguard certification and CPR/First Aid certification.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations.
-Physical fitness and endurance for extended periods in the water and boat operation.
-Knowledge of local and state regulations related to water safety.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Previous experience in lifeguarding and boat operation.
-Boating or water safety instructor certification.

Physical Requirements:

-Ability to swim long distances.
-Ability to lift heavy objects (e.g., boat equipment).
-Stamina to work in various weather conditions.

Working Conditions:

This position primarily involves outdoor work in and around water bodies.

Irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
