POSITION: Biomedical Engineer (1)
LOCATION: Ndola Medical Complex – Ndola
ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Biomedical Engineer will ensure that medical equipment and systems used in patient care are operational, safe, and properly configured and used to meet our healthcare standards. They will need to continually educate and train equipment users so that the equipment is used and maintained effectively.
They will be expected to prepare and execute on a preventive maintenance schedule, which includes setting the appropriate stock holding levels for essential spares, for all equipment to limit medical equipment being non-operational or dangerous to patient care. They will collaborate with manufacturers and suppliers to guarantee that their knowledge is up to date, troubleshoot and resolve problems expediently.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Equipment Control & Asset Management
- Supports patient diagnosis and treatment by installing, testing, calibrating and repairing biomedical equipment; training users; maintaining safe operations.
- Approves new equipment by conducting tests, ensuring adherence to codes and making modifications.
- Installs new equipment by establishing, adjusting, calibrating and testing performance.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules, conducting tests and troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions.
Calls for special equipment service, evaluates service contracts and maintains equipment inventories. - Directs biomedical equipment operation by providing equipment operation demonstrations, instructing other healthcare staff in use and care of equipment and answering questions.
- Evaluates proposed equipment by conducting tests and evaluations.
Improves equipment performance by studying machine-patient interaction, conferring with equipment users, developing modifications, and collaborating with manufacturers. - Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt.
- Prepares biomedical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains patient confidence by keeping information confidential.
Maintains safe and healthy working environment by conducting safety tests, recommending and complying with procedures, training and guiding medical and healthcare personnel and complying with codes.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
- Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate
- A minimum of a Degree in biomedical engineering or electronics and instrumentation or its equivalent.
- Excellent diagnostic skills in hospital instruments and equipment.
- Excellent IT Skills.
- Should be a member of the Engineering institution of Zambia
