ABOUT US:
Founded in 1995 after being curved from the Diocese of Lusaka, the Anglican Diocese of Eastern Zambia (ADEZ) is one of the five dioceses in Zambia. The Diocese has existed for nearly thirty (30) years, with two Bishops leading it at various stages. The Diocese elected a new Bishop in June 2024, marking a new phase of the Diocese’s Transformational Leadership and Sustainable Development.
The Diocese also runs Social Justice programs, Education, Health, and development. ADEZ believes in the power of missions and development through integrated Mission and Development to support strong families, Churches, and Communities (John 10:10b) to promote human dignity and holistic ministry.
To realise the dream and vision of ‘Transformational Leadership through Mission and Sustainable Development, the Diocese has established human resource and financial management systems to meet the aspirations of today’s organisational compliance mechanism to enhance efficiency and effective organisational development of ADEZ.
We are seeking a passionate, dynamic, detail-oriented, and results-oriented Diocesan Youth and Children Ministry Coordinator with multitasking experience to lead the growth phase program of the Anglican Diocese of Eastern Zambia Youth & Children’s Ministry.
ABOUT THE JOB
- The Youth & Children’s Ministry Coordinator (YCMC) will work under the direction of the Diocesan Bishop and youth Chaplain and in collaboration with the Diocesan Youth Council, the Diocesan Standing Committee, the Archdeaconry and Parish Council and others to deliver on the objectives and actions of the Young People and Children Ministry plan in the Diocesan Pastoral Plan.
- The role will involve creating, resourcing, coordinating, delivering, and supporting youth and children’s ministry programmes and initiatives across the Diocese. It will also include collaborating with schools and parishes to build local support.
- To grow the Youth and Children’s Ministry of the Diocese of Eastern Zambia by creating and developing youth and children’s programmes. The post holder will significantly contribute to discipleship by developing relationships with young people within the church and the wider community.
- They will further support and encourage other gifts and skills of young people and children through the various ministries of Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade, Girls’ Friendly Society, Sunday School, Praise Teams, Altar Servers, Church Choirs, and other groups that may be part of this vital ministry department, including those who do not to any Church Youth Groups but are under the age of 35 years (by Diocesan Youth definition).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creating an environment where young people and children can thrive.
- Developing and delivering programmes relevant to equipping young people and children for life and faith.
- Developing relationships with the local/wider community by attending and collaborating with schools, churches, community organisations and other youth ministries.
- Build and develop good working relationships with the diocesan office and programmes.
- Ensuring good communication with parents/carers of the young people and children.
- Contributing to planning strategy for youth and children ministry.
- Developing trust and relationships with young people and children.
- Developing and leading a team of volunteers for the youth and children ministry.
- Ensuring safeguarding processes are always adhered to.
- Leading and encouraging the young people and children to be involved in the life of the wider church family.
- Coordinating and leading groups of young people attending residentials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Male or Female aged between 25 and 35 years old
- 5 ‘O’ levels or Grade 12 full certificate (including Mathematics and English)
- Relevant qualification (Certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate) in Education, Religious Education, Youth Work, Social Work, Theology, or Youth Ministry or any related qualifications from a recognised institution.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
The successful applicant must bring the following skills and experience:
- Proven 5 years experience in senior leadership and management of an organisation of a significant size
- Experience in successful strategic planning and delivery
- A delivery record and the ability to lead changes in pursuing excellence.
- Experience in financial and budgetary strategic decision-making at the senior management level
- Excellent and effective communication and writing skills.
- The ability to communicate with a diverse audience.
- Strong negotiating, advocacy and influencing skills.
- Elevated level of numeracy and IT skills
- Experience in successfully managing a range of varied and competing priorities.
- A strong understanding of how complex governance structures and processes can serve the needs of multiple stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the Anglican Church and a committed Christian in the Anglican Church.
EXPERIENCE
- At least 2 years (within the last 5 years) working with young people in a paid or voluntary capacity.
- Worked as part of a team.
- Experience in the delivery of youth and children ministry programmes
- Experience in leading a team of volunteers or staff.
- Experience in the creation and development of youth and children ministry programmes
- Experience in designing and drafting reports and work plans.
ESSENTIAL
- A personal commitment to Jesus Christ and His Church and the desire to communicate this to others.
- Relevant qualification (Certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate) in Education, Religious Education, Youth Work, Social Work, Theology, or Youth Ministry or any related qualifications from a recognised institution.
- Practical experience and proven ability to work effectively and relate well to young people and children.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in training and facilitation.
- Ability to recruit, support and enable volunteers to work effectively with young people and children.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, compile, deliver and evaluate training programmes.
- Openness to work collaboratively with various stakeholders within and outside the Diocese.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Ability to work on your initiative and be part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- A full clean driving Licence is an added advantage.
- Flexible attitude and willingness to travel nationally and internationally as the work requires.
- Openness and flexibility to adapt Youth & Children Ministry programmes and activities to meet the changing needs of young people, children, and the Diocese.
- Willingness to organise and mobilise events, conferences and rallies, crusades to embrace the involvement of young people and children in the diocese.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- This role will involve significant time during the evening, weekend, and overnight work to support training, residential and other church and community projects and programmes.
- YCMC will spend 60% of the time in the field and 40% in the office.
- Respect for the teachings of the Anglican Church as our identity.
- The ideal person will be able to develop projects that support the financial sustainability of the Youth and Children Ministry in the Diocese.
- Collaborate with the chaplain to promote harmonious relationships among all groups under their care.
- To encourage youths and children to contribute financially to the life and mission of the diocese.
