Job Description


Umoyo is seeking a seasoned Wholesale Department Manager to increase revenue growth and lead business development initiatives. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the wholesale department, developing and implementing comprehensive sales strategies, cultivating strong customer relationships, identifying and capitalising on new business opportunities within Zambia as well as exports to the region and beyond. This role is responsible for monitoring sales performance, driving market penetration, executing promotional marketing strategies, conducting market research on competitors and industry trends, and providing strategic leadership to the Wholesale team.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Drive sales and market penetration of Umoyo products in Zambia.
  • Establish and drive exports of Umoyo products to the region and beyond.
  • Manage and lead the Wholesale Department.
  • Review current operations and procedures of the Wholesale Department and recommend strategic improvements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve sales targets.
  • Identify and pursue new market opportunities for business expansion
  • Oversee market research and adjust strategies to align with market trends and competitive landscape
  • Monitor competitor activities, sales trends, and help create marketing initiatives
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer service and satisfaction
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and partners.
  • Address client inquiries and resolve issues to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular client meetings and visits to strengthen partnerships and identify new business opportunities and cultivate customer relationships
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Department for optimum promotion and marketing opportunities for wholesale growth.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members
  • Facilitate team development through training and skill enhancement programs
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and budgets; maintain accurate records to evaluate productivity and identify improvement opportunities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Skills and Qualifications

  • Possession of Full Grade 12 certificate
  • Degree in business, marketing or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years sales experience in FMCG sector or a comparable industry.
  • Emerging negotiation/commercial skills
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and organize work to meet all deadlines and commitments
  • Exemplary verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Results-driven mindset with a positive attitude
  • Prior supervisory or management experience in a related field preferred.
  • Intermediate-level math skills.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong computer-based skills.
  • Valid driver’s license

Essential aspects of this position require substantial fieldwork, involving frequent travel to various locations. This includes interacting directly with clients in different settings, often outdoors and the ability to adapt to different environments.
