Job Description


WATER ENGINEER

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Advise the Projects Board and TMB on technical information and requirements
  2. Prepare technical designs in line with national standards
  3. Lead preparation of tender documents, contracting and deployment of Contractors
  4. Supervise borehole drilling works and sanitation works
  5. Certify works
  6. Lead O&M capacity building in communities, schools and HCFs
  7. Lead water quality testing and monitoring
  8. Networking
  9. Reporting

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct site assessments and rapid environmental impact assessments
  • Produce designs
  • Present project details and technical information to the Project Board and TMB
  • Produce and advertise tender documents and manage contracts
  • Keeping up-to-date with changes in regulatory legislation, rules and guidelines
  • Liaise with contractors, government agencies, local authorities and suppliers
  • Supervise drilling works borehole installation, pump testing and development
  • Inspect materials such as gravel packing, seals, pipes for compliance to specifications
  • Coordinate siting
  • Form and train operation and maintenance committees in communities, schools and HCFs
  • Produce borehole completion reports and certification
  • Recommend payments to contractors
  • Lead water quality testing and monitoring

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resource Management or any other related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge of community participatory approaches
  • Knowledge of O&M Approaches for rural WASH
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Familiarity with National WASH sector policies, plans, strategies, approaches and practices for Rural WASH.
  • Familiarity with statutory requirements on procurement, tax and professional grading of Contractors.
  • Being a salvationist is an added advantage.
