Profile:
Living Water International (LWI) is a global NGO dedicated to provision of safe and clean water as well as spreading the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Purpose:
A vacancy exists for the position of WASH Engineer who will be responsible for all tasks related to the construction of water and sanitation projects, as well as the facilitation of technical assistance in all aspects of WASH related to community promotion, health promotion and sustainability promotion of the water systems in the targeted communities.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Supports the Country Strategic plan regarding Water Supply Development initiatives.
- Work as a design engineer for water systems and sanitation infrastructures such as Latrines, wastewater treatment plans
- Manages qualified personnel to support Water Supply Development Initiatives.
- Supports the recruitment process for W&S staff.
- Ensures that the communities selected meet the Living Water standards and donor expectations
- Responsible for developing and reviewing the construction designs of the water and sanitation systems.
- Collect and analyze data related to water quality and usage, preparing reports for donors /stakeholders and guiding decision-making.
- Train local staff and community members on the design skills, supervisory insights, as well as operation and maintenance of water and sanitation facilities.
- Proven knowledge in hydrogeological siting and surveys.
- Prepares estimates and terms of reference for the professional service and company contracts for the work construction.
- Responsible for the oversight and execution of the activities or tasks for the project construction, verifying that the execution complies with project design and program elements in accordance to the Quality Standards for Programs and donor requirements.
- Manage coordination of community representatives and local authorities on all the actions relating to the water and sanitation projects of Living Water International for the achievement of maximum impact.
- Ensure that all work meets LWI quality standards
- Supervise civil engineers, construction workers, plumbers, as well as the people of the community who are performing activities related to the project so that these tasks are executed to the satisfaction of internal and external clients.
- Prepare operation and maintenance manuals of the water systems.
- Ensure staff health and occupational safety standards are followed at all times during drilling and construction processes.
- Requests the purchase of materials and equipment that are necessary for the construction of the water systems and/or sanitation facilities.
- Perform the rate analysis with their respective blocks of consumption for each project.
- Prepare quarterly reports of activity developments. In addition, provide specific reports that are required by his/her supervisor.
- Promotes the gender equity in the different activities in each one of the stages of the project.
- Ensure that all LWI fleet are maintained, and log sheets updated.
- Guarantees that assigned resources (human and material) are utilized effectively and in an efficient manner.
- Coordinates government or state institutions, private sector, that supervise the areas of work.
- Represent LWI Zambia in various stakeholder networks whenever required.
- Keep abreast with current events in relation to the water supply sector
- Build the capacity of the water supply team and ensure their skills meet the current work demands.

- Significant proven work experience in engineering (designing, preparation of BOQ and/or supervising works) for water supply, sanitation and hygiene infrastructures projects.
- Experience in composing informative technical documents
- Experience in working with multi-disciplinary equipment including drilling equipment.
- Experience in preparing diagnostic and feasibility reports of clean water, and sanitation projects
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages including Microsoft project
- Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD, Epanet, WaterCAD and any other water system modelling software
- Knowledge of GPS and location of projects using Google Maps
- Knowledge of a local community dynamics community/area of operation will be favorable.
- Minimum 4 years of continuous driving experience with C1 class with proven practical skills and clean record
- Committed Christian with Adherence to LWI values.
- Competence in engineering computer aided design application/software e.g. AutoCAD, WaterCAD, Epanet, Prokon etc.
Minimum Education and Experience Competencies
- University Degree in Civil /water Engineering (with Hydraulics), Hydrogeology.
- Minimum of six years’ experience working in construction of potable and sanitary water systems and other civil works. MUST have a practicing license (ERB Registration with EIZ).
- Training in drilling and Hydrology will be added advantage.
- 3 years’ experience in managerial or leadership role
