Lubambe Copper Mine Limited (LCML) operates an underground copper mine located in Chililabombwe District in the Copperbelt Province of the Republic of Zambia. The company also has a mineral processing plant with a capacity to process up to 2.5 Mt per annum of copper ore and produces a high – grade copper concentrate.

LCML seeks to employ an experienced and qualified individual in the following position:

VENTILATION ENGINEER (x1)

This position reports to the Mining Engineering Manager.

Core Purpose of the Position:

To design and oversee the effective functioning and monitoring of air ventilation systems at various underground active mine sites.

Key Performance Areas/Indicators (KPA/Is):

  •  Eliminate FACs, MTCs, LTIs and Fatalities by promoting highest safety standards within and beyond the scope of mine ventilation requirements within the Lubambe SHEQ guidelines and other official safety initiatives.
  • Ensures both air quality and quantity meet and/or exceeds regulatory requirements to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all mine production employees.
  • Carry out systematic sampling and auditing of ventilation systems to ensure compliance.
  • Issue recommendations and deviation reports to operating officials to ensure compliance.
  • Build complex air circuit networks for new and/or existing production areas and mine sites.
  • Conduct costing and time analyses related to ventilation initiatives.
  • Oversee the monitoring and maintenance of all air ventilation installations.
  • Recommend purchase of ventilation equipment as required.
  • Participate in mine planning meetings to ensure ventilation is accommodated by way of proposing return and intake airways.
  • To make available ventilation fans and accessories to facilitate the ventilation of development ends based on the plan.
  • Ensure legal compliance to mining regulation’s part 9.

Academic Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Diploma or bachelor’s Degree specializing in Mine Ventilation (Engineering).
  • Member of Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Valid first aid certificate will be added advantage.
  •  Minimum of 5 years of ventilation engineering experience.
  •  Knowledge and experience in developing policies and procedures relating to safety, the environment and individual and organisational development.
  • Previous experience in VentSim Software.
  • Previous practical work experience in conducting ventilation surveys on the mine.
  • Previous experience in training, coaching and mentoring junior staff.
  • Strong planning and analytical skills.
