Job description:

Overall Job Purpose:

The position of larox technician is to maximise plant availability through, maintaining operational integrity of the plant & equipment in order to achieve production targets. Reporting directly to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, you shall be responsible for providing the highest quality services and that all services provided are performed within a safe and timely manner.

 

Specific Job Responsibilities:

The specific tasks to be performed by the position holder will include, but not limit to;

  •  Do fault finding on larox press filters and to perform mechanical maintenance as well as follow the pm task schedules.
  • Safely, manually operate larox press filters with the hand held operating unit and through the PLC screen.
  • Perform visual checks and inspections while the larox filters are in operation and identify any defects on the mentioned equipment.
  • Do the larox press filter mechanical tasks/maintenance according to the safe work instructions.
  • Perform all plant maintenance tasks in a safe, timely and  to a high quality and preventing any rework
  • Be a self-starter and able to work with both autonomously  and as part of a team
  • Demonstrate a commitment to work place safety and the safety of your co-workers
  • Be accurate, methodical, practical and safety-conscious when installing and maintaining mechanical equipment.
  • Assist new employees in proper work procedures and practices
  • Compliance to work order attachments and documents such as JHA’s, CSRA’s, SWI’s, etc. This includes the updating of any of these documents to ensure they are kept relevant and reflect best practices
  • Ensure compliance with Safety and Environmental Management systems, policies and procedures along with ensuring that all risks have been identified, managed and safe working environment is maintained
  • Full compliance to mandatory PPE requirements in all areas of the plant.
  • A clear understanding of preventative maintenance, strong communication skills and a flexible “can do” work ethic.
  • Ensure good housekeeping practices are maintained by cleaning up after every task and not leaving any hazards within the work place
  • Have the ability to diagnose faults with equipment through observation and deduction.
  • Coordinate with departmental and team members, as well as process departmental members.
  • Have the ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Compliance to completion of all pre start checks on mobile equipment/vehicle, welders, oxygen and acetylene equipment, lifting equipment, electrical equipment, and overhead cranes. This includes the correct documentation to be filled in and delivered to the required location.
  • Assist in the proactive identification of repair and maintenance works required which includes raising work requests
  • Ensure that all completed work orders are closed out with accurate time confirmations
  • Be able to stand for sustained periods of time, work at heights or confined spaces.
  • Perform heavy manual labour safely and effectively.
  • Be able to wear the appropriate PPE for the required task.
  • Ensure that all tools, plant and equipment are kept in good condition, meet required safety standards and are available for use when required.

Experience required to perform in this job:

2 years’ experience in the mining industry or equivalent private industry as an Artisan who has worked on Larox press filters doing mechanical maintenance tasks.

  • Ability to perform mechanical maintenance, fault finding and safely, manually operate Larox press filters.
  • Troubleshooting abilities on various centrifugal pumps, conveyor drives, conveyors, experience in hydraulics will be an advantage.
  • Maintenance background, with preference given to direct mining experience.
  • Experience to operate overhead cranes.
  • The ability to make informed decisions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • A positive, self-motivated and conscientious attitude.

 

Qualifications:

  • Craft Certificate in mechanical fitting or better.
