Technical Services Manager, Underground Mining

Our client with their mining operations in Southern Africa would like to interview suitable candidates for the position of Technical Services Manager.

The Technical Services Manager is responsible for leading, co-ordinating, and optimising the performance of the Technical Services department.

Responsible for Geological, Rock Mechanics/Geotech, Ventilation, Grade Control, Exploration Drilling and Mine Planning (short term and long-term planning and long hole drilling & blasting layouts) departments/activities.

The role is critical in ensuring rapid quality and effective support to the Mining Department and other relevant departments.

The candidate must be able to train and coach inexperienced sub-ordinates – skills transfer

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Fluency in English, both oral and written.
• BSc Mine Engineering or Geology with 7 to 10 years of “hands on” professional experience, mainly in underground mining.
• Proven experience as a Technical Manager in a similar role.
• High level of computer literacy as applied to Mine Planning Engineering.
• Ability to read and understand mine plans using software such as Mine 24D (EPS), AutoCAD, Surpac or other software, and advanced Excel.
• A track record in leading teams to successfully achieve complex tasks which relies on engagement of multiple groups and integration of robust technical, business, and operational teamwork.
• Deep understanding and experience in implementing routine good practises in Mine Planning.
• Strong ability to influence and communicate with technical and non-technical employees.
• Must be familiar with underground ventilation methods.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and presentation skills.
• Capability to work positively with a team of professional and technical people in a challenging environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

• Provide day-to-day support, leadership and encouragement for the technical services team ensuring a productive and positive workplace environment.
• Ensure optimal utilisation and management of the mine site’s ore body.
• Monitor and manage geotechnical functions and geological activities, ventilation, grade control, mine planning ensuring adherence to company goals and targets.
• Ensure focus on Operational Readiness and Execution Planning to deliver high quality standards of operations and performance against plan.
• Lead Tech Services Team to build robust fit for purpose technical plans that integrate well with Operational Functions and deliver successful outcomes
• Ensure the technical services team aligned with overall company strategy and policies.
• Work within Health and Safety Guidelines and Company standards.
• Be responsible for technical planning, grade control planning and economic planning to underground production optimisation.
• Provide scheduling and long term / short term strategic planning for the mine.
