Role Overview (Global Position, Based in Africa):
The Senior Technical Advisor is an integral member of JSI’s Center for HIV & Infectious Diseases, with key responsibilities in expanding strategic partnerships, supporting technical excellence and learning, contributing to new business efforts, and advancing JSI’s thought leadership through conferences, operational research and other avenues. The Senior Technical Advisor will represent JSI’s work globally, with an emphasis on the Africa region, providing technical assistance across the organization’s global HIV and infectious disease portfolio. The Senior Technical Advisor will focus on JSI’s international programs under the guidance of the Center Co-Director for the international portfolio.

The Senior Technical Advisor will support Center-related activities while also providing direct support to existing projects. The incumbent of this position will be considered a telecommuter, working remotely in Africa with international travel assignments up to 30% or as deemed necessary.RESPONSIBILITIES

Expand Strategic Partnerships

Identify strategic local and regional organizations (private sector, academic, NGO, etc.) in priority countries/regions
Cultivate and nurture relationships with selected local and regional organizations
Lead national and global joint events to advance partnerships
Explore funding opportunities for JSI to sub to local organizations
Support documentation, learning and dissemination on JSI’s localization efforts
Support Technical Excellence and Learning

Establish and coordinate a global community of practice for HIV
Organize and convene annual technical summits (regional and/or virtual)
Provide technical leadership in the develop/finalize manuals, toolkits, SOPs and other technical resources and coordinate communications and other support needed to finalize.
Contribute to knowledge management efforts such as lunch and learns (across Health Services Division, World Education)
Identify technical resources across the organization for the jsi.com HIV resource page, lead updating and dissemination.
Provide HIV clinical/program STTA on request.
Thought Leadership and Strategic Positioning

Organize and coordinate period external webinars to showcase areas of thought leadership for JSI and to support strategic partnerships.
Arrange and lead a coordinated JSI presence at conferences and other representational events, including helping generate abstracts, reviewing abstracts, planning and participating in satellite sessions, and partnering with other organizations panel presentations.
Participate in and lead protocol development, implementation, publication and dissemination of operational research to support JSI’s relevance and technical prominence
New Business

Lead and contribute to capture efforts.
Observe and share competitor trends and best practices.
Contribute to strategic positioning plans.
Serve as technical contributor to proposals during design, drafting and review
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 15 years experience implementing USAID health programming
Experience implementing PEPFAR programs, 5 years of which must be at management level
Clinical qualification (clinical officer or medical doctor) required
Strong understanding of global health industry, emerging trends
English fluency required; French language will be considered an advantage
Exceptional representational and networking skills
Familiarity with ministries of health and major global health funders
Commitment to engaging with local organizations in a respectful and collaborative manner
Robust trainer with excellent facilitation skills
Expertise in operational research, including protocol preparation and publications, preferred
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision essential
Willingness to work in a diverse global organization, across cultures, languages and work styles
Ability to travel throughout Africa and internationally up to 30%, or as deemed necessary
As a telecommuter, the incumbent must reside in a country in which JSI is currently registered
Salary commensurate with experience.
