Job description:

Purpose of the Role:

To assist the Dewatering Coordinator supervise a multi skilled shift-team. Responsible for projects, maintenance and assembly / relocation of pumping equipment, supervising dewatering operations and ensuring that dewatering systems are properly designed, installed, and maintained to support safe and productive mining activities.

 

Specific Job Responsibilities:

Ensure all Statutory compliance requirements adhered to.

  • Ensuring that all maintenance, construction and monitoring is carried out in a safe and efficient manner, to assure maximum reliability and uptime.
  • Meeting set work targets for daily work group activities in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Achieving results through prioritizing activities, monitoring the progress of assignments, and holding self-accountable for the results.
  • Project Planning: Collaborate with coordinators and engineers to develop daily and weekly dewatering plans that address mining needs, conditions and environmental considerations.
  • System Planning: Work with engineering teams and dewatering specialist to install appropriate dewatering systems, including pumps, boreholes, trenches, and other drainage solutions, based on requirements.
  • Supervision: Oversee dewatering crews, ensuring that tasks are assigned, executed, and completed according to established schedules and safety protocols. Supervise the installation and setup of dewatering systems, ensuring proper placement, connection, and functioning of pumps, pipes, and other components.
  • Monitoring and Adjustment: Continuously monitor dewatering operations, water levels, and system performance. Make necessary adjustments to optimize dewatering efficiency.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that dewatering systems are functioning effectively and efficiently, with a focus on preventing site flooding and potential hazards.
  • Safety and Compliance: Identify hazards, enforce safety guidelines and regulations to prevent accidents, protect personnel, and mitigate environmental impacts related to dewatering activities.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of dewatering operations, equipment maintenance, water levels, and system performance. Prepare reports for coordinators.
  • Adhere and enforce all aspects of the company’s health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Attend safety meetings/toolbox talks on a daily basis.
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Job Specific Competencies:

  • Proven understanding of dewatering principles, groundwater management, and drainage systems.
  • Supervisory experience, with the ability to lead and manage dewatering crews effectively.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, plans, pump curves and specifications.
  • Extensive knowledge of dewatering equipment, such as pumps, wells, pipes, staged pumping-systems and control systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Effective communication skills to convey information clearly to team members and stakeholders.
  • Safety-conscious and knowledgeable about active mining site safety protocols.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work in outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions.
  • Good swimmer – proximity to sumps and water-bodies.

Experience & Qualifications required to perform in this job:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience.
  • Experience in Mine Dewatering Operations or similar environment.
  • Full Grade 12 certificate.
  • Minimum Diploma in a Mechanical field.
  • Member of EIZ and registered with ERB.
