BACKGROUND

The Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS) was established by Act of Parliament No. 15 of 2003 of the laws of Zambia.

The main function of the Institute is to certify and regulate professional conduct of all Procurement and Supply practitioners as well as build capacity for the practitioners in the Purchasing and Supply Profession in Zambia.

The Institute now seeks to recruit a suitable, highly motivated and goal oriented professional to fill the following vacancy:

RESEARCH OFFICER

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Education and Training Manager, the Research Officer is responsible for providing research support to the Office of the Education and Training Manager. This will include undertaking relevant and appropriate data analysis and collating, and preparing appropriate briefs and documents containing evidence-based assessments and any relevant advice and recommendations in support of the work of the Office of the Education and Training Manager. This role is a full time job.

JOB DESCRIPTION The post holder will:

a) Undertake research using appropriate tools with the aim of providing information and analysis on a policy issue and its development:

b) Provide information on what research is already available in supply chain area, including in cross cutting areas involving economic and social development matters, towards preparation of papers and technical presentations as required

c) Assist the Registrar in the conceptualization and preparation of the major policy analysis, and prepare and, or as required, contribute to the preparation and delivery of written and oral reports, papers and briefings, and speeches and briefs for the Institute:

d) Coordinate and assist in preparations for and servicing of meetings. organised by the Office of the Registrar by assisting with the preparation of the required documentation and reports and assisting with the logistical aspects;

e) Prepare and, or as required, contribute to the preparation and delivery of written and oral reports, papers and briefings: and prepare and contribute to speeches and briefs for the Institute

f) Performs any other duties as may be required from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

a) Full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 credits including Mathematics and English

b) A bachelor degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as Economics, Development Studies. Education, Statistics, Demography or Social Science.

c) At least three-years of demonstrated work experience in research related positions or projects and/or programmes. The work experience may be gained through a combination of paid employment, volunteer. placement or internship positions. It is highly desirable that candidates will be able to demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas:

I. Working in a developing country:
II. Working in/with Goverment, intergovernmental or international NGO organizations Skills
III. High personal standards of excellence:
IV. Excellent:
(1) Verbal and written communication skills in English:
(2) Interpersonal skills;
(3) Creative thinking and solution building abilities:
(4) Strategic thinking and operational planning capabilities:
(5) Analysis and synthesis skills;
(6) Administrative and organizational abilities, including an eye for detail

d) Numerically literate;

e) Technologically savvy

f) Ability to work autonomously and in teams, and in a multi-cultural work environment;

g) Demonstrated drive and initiative, a self-starter with a can-do attitude. In addition, all staff appointed to the Secretariat are expected to meet the core requirement of working effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment.
