Job Description


Position Title : Rescue Mechanic

Supervisor: Workshop Foreman

Basic Function:

To ensure the effective operation of the entire fleet of trucks in or transiting through Zambia by conducting mandatory and systematic services on every Truck and strive to reduce the number of breakdowns.  To that effect, to effectively attend to all and any breakdown trucks within Zambia to ensure their quick recovery. The Rescue Mechanic reports directly to the Workshop Foreman.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Carrying out systematic checks on trucks to avoid breakdowns and diagnose problems on trucks in order to avoid further deterioration;

2. Conducting routine general check-ups on the trucks that include preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil and coolant changes, tyre rotation and changes, wheel balancing, replacing filters and brake adjustments and any other necessary checks;

3. Ensure all job cards are correctly signed for to show the works undertaken on each truck assigned to work on;

4. Answer the Workshop 24hr line in order to attend to any breakdowns or accidents.

5. To always obtain as much information as possible on the breakdown truck before going out to attend to it;

6. To provide clear, concise and accurate diagnosis of the vehicle on breakdown to immediate supervisor;

7. To keep all assigned tools and toolbox in a good condition and to report any missing tools to the immediate supervisor;

8. To immediately report any accident or accident damage that may occur to the breakdown vehicle to immediate supervisor;

9. Ensure the rescue vehicle mileage log book is correctly updated at all times;

10. To always ensure driving license is valid at all times and to always report expiry date of same to immediate supervisor prior to expiry;

11. Ensure that the statutory requirements of road tax, fitness, Insurance etc are up-to date prior to the vehicle leaving the depot and any expired documents reported to your immediate supervisor so same are updated by relevant

12. Any other duties as delegated by Management.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Academic Background: Automotive certificate holder with 5-15 years, preferably in Transport and/or Logistics and/or experience in an International Company;
  2. Age 25 and above
  3. Thorough knowledge of and good understanding of FLD and Freightliner Argosy trucks;
  4. Driver’s license with driving experience: Minimum of 12
  5. Good judgment and high levels of responsibility and accountability;
  6. Hard worker, with high level of self-motivation and decision making skills;
  7. Diligent with strong attention to detail;
  8. Results orientated with delivery capabilities and good time management skills;
  9. Able to ensure effective working relationship with co-workers, Managers, and 3rd parties;
  10. Ability to lead by example by demonstrating ethical and moral behavior whilst ensuring compliance with the HSES policies
