Job Description


Skyrock Labour Consultants is looking to hire on behalf of our client in the broadcasting industry seasoned, highly driven and experienced Radio Station Manager and Journalist.

1. Radio Station Manager

The radio station manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the radio station, ensuring it runs smoothly, and achieving its goals. The manager will have a broad range of responsibilities, including:

1. Station Operations:

· Ensuring that the station’s broadcast operations run without technical issues.

· Managing the scheduling of programs, commercials, and other content.

· Overseeing the station’s technical staff and ensuring the equipment is properly maintained8.

2. Programming:

· Overseeing content development, including music, talk shows, news, and special programs.

· Ensuring the2 station’s programming aligns with the target audience and station’s mission.

· Working with on-air talent to ensure they are prepared for their segments.

3. Budgeting and Finances:

· Managing the station’s budget and ensuring financial goals are met.

· Overseeing advertising and sponsorship deals to generate revenue.

· Handling payroll, expenses, and ensuring profitability.

4. Staff Management:

· Hiring, training, and managing the station’s staff, including on-air personalities, technicians, and administrative personnel.

· Creating a positive work culture and handling any staffing conflicts or issues.

5. Marketing and Promotion:

· Promoting the station through events, social media, and other marketing channels.

· Developing strategies to increase listenership and audience engagement.

6. Compliance:

· Ensuring the station complies with local, state, and Government regulations.

· Managing licensing, copyright, and other legal considerations.

7. Community Engagement:

· Building relationships with the local community and using the station as a platform for public service announcements or community outreach.


2. Radio Journalist

The Radio Journalist will be responsible for gathering, writing, editing, and presenting news stories and other content for radio broadcast. The role requires strong communication skills, keen news judgment, and the ability to work under tight deadlines to provide accurate, engaging, and timely content to radio listeners.

Key Responsibilities:
· Research & News Gathering: Conduct research on a wide range of topics, including local, national, and international news. Stay updated on current events, trends, and breaking news.

· Story Writing: Write scripts and news articles for radio broadcasts, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and engaging content that aligns with the station’s style and format.

· Reporting: Conduct interviews, attend press conferences, and report on live events as required. Ensure that all sources are credible and information is verified.

· Editing: Edit audio recordings of interviews and reports for broadcast, ensuring content meets station standards for quality and clarity.

· On-Air Presentation: Present live and pre-recorded news segments, weather updates, and other programming in a clear and engaging manner. May also host or participate in talk shows or special segments.

· Collaboration: Work closely with producers, editors, and other journalists to produce high-quality, timely news reports. Assist with planning news coverage and contributing ideas for stories.

· Compliance: Ensure all news content complies with legal requirements, ethical guidelines, and station policies.

· Social Media & Digital Content: Promote news stories via social media platforms, website updates, and other digital outlets to reach a wider audience.

· Breaking News Coverage: Respond to breaking news events, providing live updates, interviews, and reports to the station as they unfold.

Qualifications required for both positions:

  • Education: A degree or higher  in Journalism, Mass Communications, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in radio broadcast media is highly desirable. Experience in news reporting, editing, or production is a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to speak clearly and confidently on air.
  • Proficiency in using broadcast equipment and editing software.
  • Good understanding of news and media ethics.
  • Ability to work quickly under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with digital tools, social media, and online journalism.
