Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled counselor to provide psychological and emotional support to children, house mothers, and parents/guardians at the Tree of Life Children’s Village/Brothers & Sisters Residence. The ideal candidate will conduct assessments, provide therapeutic interventions, and address the psychosocial needs of our community.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide daily clinical counseling therapy using evidence-based techniques (play-based interventions, therapeutic art, CBT, trauma-focused approaches)
Conduct psychological, emotional, developmental, and social assessments
Create and implement individualized treatment plans
Manage referrals, triage cases, and prioritize client needs facilitate therapeutic support groups (HIV, sickle cell, sexual abuse, grief, trauma)
Conduct HIV disclosure processes with children who are HIV+ and their parents/guardians
Prepare children for family reintegration and provide follow-up support
Provide crisis intervention for children who have run away from the residence
Conduct death/illness disclosures and accompany children to funerals or hospital visits when needed
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Family Legacy ministries
Maintain detailed client records and documentation compliant with HPCZ, ZCC, and PAZ standards
Required Qualifications:
Associate-level license in psychosocial or child counseling accredited by the Zambian Counselling Council (ZCC) or Psychological Association of Zambia (PAZ)
Minimum level of certificate level qualification in psychological, child, or clinical counseling
Full Grade 12 certificate
At least 1 year of experience in a similar position
Current Zambian counseling licensure
No prior convictions of harm to a child
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or psychosocial counseling
Experience working with traumatized or vulnerable children
Knowledge of trauma-informed care approaches
Required Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and privacy
Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email)
Self-management with limited supervision
Creative problem-solving abilities
Team collaboration across departments
Emotional resilience and ability to remain calm under pressure
Cultural sensitivity and awareness
Adherence to deadlines and organizational procedures
