ActionAid Zambia (AAZ) is part of the ActionAid Global (AAG) Federation, sharing common values and aims to drive social change towards a just, equitable and sustainable world. AAZ works with the marginalized, excluded women and young people, their organizations, and social movements to address the structural causes of social injustice, gender inequality and poverty.

ActionAid Zambia has a vacancy for an experienced and suitably qualified Zambian to take up the following position:

1.0 POSITION: PROJECT OFFICER – Preventing and Mitigating Gender-Based Violence to Improve Access, Benefits and Control of Fisheries Resources in Zambia Project.

Duration 24 months
Location: Sesheke

1.1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: The holder of the position shall be responsible to support evidence-based strategies to address gender-based violence in environment and climate related programming, in ways that improve rights-based, gender-responsive, socially inclusive and equitable conservation, climate
action and sustainable development. This will be done in in Western Province in Nalolo, Sesheke and Mongu Districts.

1.2 SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Build capacity of partners, Women, girls, and Community Based Organisations (CBOs), in understanding Gender barriers as it relates to Fisheries sector, dismantling gender barriers with key focus on Girls and Women’s leadership & Women’s Protection to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in environment and climate related programming.
  • The Officer will be expected to have key competency in developing strategies aimed at enhancing the capacity of the community especially young women and girls on issues related to policies and laws on environment, gender-based violence and fisheries sector for enhance participation in decision making structures especially at Local level.
  • Working with state and non-state actors to strengthen coordination of the GBV response at national and sub-national levels
  • Promoting knowledge sharing, learning of strategies, interventions and lessons learnt in programming around GBV.
  • Collaborating with different actors such as the Victim Support Unit (VSU), Fast Track Court, Chiefs in addressing GBV cases
  • Providing technical support to CBOs, women groups and partners for development and application of practical tools for GBV programming in the fisheries sector in the Nalolo, Sesheke and Mongu
  • Supporting the design and monitoring of strategies and activities on gender programming in Nalolo, Sesheke and Mongu
  • Providing technical support to implementing partners to develop annual work plans and supporting their implementation
  • Participating in joint planning, monitoring and reviews of GBV issues in the implementing areas and supporting the establishment and equipping of One Stop Centres.
  • Collecting and assessing relevant information concerning strategies implemented by, CBOs, youth and women groups, national institutions, and civil society organizations for addressing GBV.
  • Support AAZ fundraising initiatives

1.3 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Gender, or other related social sciences discipline from a recognized University.
  • At least one (3) years’ experience in gender programming, governance, democracy, or human rights programmes.
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of Environmental Management and Governance issues in Zambia
  • Demonstrable experience in research and working within influential coalitions and networks.
  • Ability to identify organizations and facilitate development of partnerships at operational level and use the partnership for scaling up interventions through collaborative alliances.
  • Demonstrate experience in advocacy and campaigning, research, and policy analysis
  • A self-starter, able to work under minimal supervision as well as being a team player
  • Excellent communication skills with good command of English as an official language and local languages in the project areas.
  • Strong writing skills for project reports and project documents.
  • Experience of similar previous work in Western province, understanding of the culture in Western province, and able to speak and understand major local languages being spoken in Western province will be added advantage.

1.4 OTHER REQUEST COMPETENCES

  • Able to work with minimum supervision and effectively guides programme in strategic processes such as strategic planning
  • Meets set targets within set time frame and targets of high quality
  • Demonstrates clear understanding of organizational mission, vision, and lives by values of ActionAid Zambia
