Job description:

Overall Job Purpose

To assist the Senior Mine Geologist in leading the execution of the strategy for the geology function from the advanced exploration stage to commercial production by driving the development and implementation of all ore control systems and best practice drilling, sampling, mapping, and modelling.

Specific Job Responsibility
In-pit mapping of all identifiable geological features and modelling of structure
Regular updating of the 3D geological models (Lithology, structure and weathering) using chemistry and in pit mapping.
Updating of geometallurgical and mineralogical models using chemistry derived from XRD, pXRF and wet chemistry and constant liaison with the Resource team to ensure integration of updates into the block model.
Support the development of processes, practices and methodologies used in mine geology and ore resource estimation that will maximize operational efficiencies and profitability.
Monitor geology department regulatory compliance with respect to ore control and mineral resource estimates with the advice and guidance of the Senior Mine Geologist.
Identify best practices and recommend continuous improvement processes in ore control and resource estimations in operation and development projects.
Actively monitor the developments in the industry related to reconciliation, resource modelling and reporting.
Oversee and maintain a strong involvement with the QA/QC function in order to ensure the quality of the data.
Provide technical assistance, support and training to relevant Geology personnel in 3D geological modelling and interpretation, mine geology, ore grade control and reconciliation.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Experience & Qualifications

At least 5 years’ technical experience working within the mining industry in a similar role.
A strong background in all facets of Mine Geology and 3D modelling which includes geological and structural interpretations, QA/QC, block estimates, validations and grade control.
Experience with different deposit types/styles (desirable asset).
Extensive experience relevant to mine production including practical experience in field ore control management, DD/RC drill project supervision, and pit mapping.
Full grade twelve (G12) certificate.
University degree in Geoscience with a Master’s degree being advantageous.
Further studies in Geo-statistics, ore body modelling and resource management is advantageous.
Must have valid membership in any association of professional geologists.

Job Specific Competencies

Sound geological understanding and analytical ability of mineral deposits, geological and assay data and mining-related assumptions with the necessary skills to conduct reconciliations and improve geological and grade control practices, systems and processes.
Familiarity with database management and relevant production/modelling/statistical software (Datamine, Datashed, OreController, Power BI, Leapfrog, ioGas).
Strong geological and structural modelling.
Excellent Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Knowledge and understanding of Nickel and/or Copper open pit mining processes (essential).
Basic commercial and/or finance knowledge (advantageous).
