Job Description
The Norwegian Association of Disabled (NAD), founded in 1931, is a Disabled Persons’ Organisation (DPO) that has been operating in development work since 1981. NAD’s principal task is to fight all types of barriers that prevent women, men, girls, and boys with disabilities from being active participants as well as contributors in their communities. NAD is currently working in Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia. NAD has been working in Zambia since 2009. NAD’s work in Zambia focuses on both specific engagement with Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs), disability inclusion in mainstream organisations and close collaboration with the Zambian Government
To support our office in Lusaka, NAD is looking for a Finance Officer. He/she will do the day-to-day accounting services for NAD Zambia. Follow up budgets and accounts from partner organisations, and consolidate budgets and accounts and report to NAD Norway. The Finance Officer will also contribute to training and review of local partner organisations in financial matters. The contract is full time for two years, with possibilities for renewal on performance basis.
Responsibilities include:
Under the supervision of the NAD Zambia Head of Programmes and Administration the Finance Officer will:
Ensure that adequate financial controls and practices are in place to maintain transparent and proper accountability of all income and expenditures.
Conduct periodic financial analysis to identify and resolve issues, gaps or variances.
Evaluate, maintain and develop systems and routines to meet donors’ changing requirements.
Ensure that financial transactions are properly authorized, executed, recorded, filed and have adequate supporting documentation.
In cooperation with Head of Programmes and Administration, lead the preparation of budgets/budget revisions.
Consolidate budgets, budget revisions and expenditure from partner organisations.
Prepare and submit timely reliable budgets, financial statements and reports to NAD Zambia and NAD Norway.
Monitor budgets and expenditures.
Maintain the NAD Asset Register and ensure that it is updated as and when new assets are procured.
Do financial reviews and internal audits for partner organisations.
Mentor and train staff in partner organisations in accounting and anti-corruption practices.
Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements like NAPSA, NHIMA and PAYE and the requirements in NAD’s donor contracts.
Carry out other financial assignments as requested.
Qualifications needed:
Higher education in economics or accounting.
A fully paid up registered member of ZICA.
At least five years’ experience in financial management in a non-governmental organization.
Demonstrated experience in grants management and financial systems and procedure.
Experience in a digital accounting environment and good knowledge of Excel and the use of QuickBooks or similar cloud-based accounting packages.
Other competencies required:
Excellent analytical skills; the ability to analyze financial data and design and produce effective management information.
Ability to prioritize, delegate and meet agreed deadlines.
Strong communication skills, ability to closely cooperate with others and build partnerships.
Willingness to travel as needed for project and partner follow-up.
