Position Overview
King Lewanika Lodge, located in the heart of the Liuwa Plain National Park, is seeking an experienced and skilled Vehicle Mechanic to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of vehicles, including Toyota Land Cruisers, diesel generators, and various plant machinery such as tractors. This role requires a strong background in mechanical maintenance and the ability to work independently in a remote and challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities:
– Perform routine maintenance and repairs on Toyota Land Cruiser diesel vehicles, ensuring they are in optimal working condition for safaris and lodge operations.
– Service and repair diesel generators
– Maintain and repair other plant machinery, including tractors and other equipment used in lodge operations and park management.
– Troubleshoot mechanical issues and perform diagnostics to identify and address problems efficiently.
– Manage inventory of spare parts and tools, ensuring that all necessary equipment is available and in good condition.
– Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed.
– Collaborate with lodge staff to ensure that mechanical work aligns with the operational needs of the lodge and park.
– Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
– Assist with any other mechanical needs that may arise as part of lodge operations.

Requirements:

-Qualifications: Qualified mechanic with relevant certifications or training.
– Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in vehicle and machinery maintenance, with specific expertise in Toyota Land Cruiser diesel vehicles, diesel generators, and plant machinery such as tractors.
– Skills: Proficient in diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
– Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and a collaborative approach.
– Living Conditions: Willingness to live on-site in a very remote area, adapting to the unique challenges of such an environment.
– Language Skills: Knowledge of the Lozi language is a distinct advantage.
– Physical Fitness: Good physical condition to handle the demands of the role, including working in varying weather conditions.
