Job Description


Luangwa Child Development Agency (LCDA) is a Zambian Non-Governmental, child- and youth-centered organization. LCDA exists to promote child and youth development by undertaking projects and programs that focus on eliminating the causes of child poverty. LCDA envisions communities in which children meet their basic needs and are well protected from all forms of harm, violence, neglect and abuse.

LCDA is now inviting suitably qualified and experienced candidates to the following positions:

Job Title: Manager

Reports to:  The Manager is accountable in the first instance to the LCDA Board and in the second instance to ChildFund Zambia.

Job Location: LCDA Office – Luangwa

Core Purpose:  To lead, direct, manage and be accountable for the operations of LCDA and oversee quality implementation and delivery of strong core programs and achieve the goals of LCDA strategic plan.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate the development and implementation of the LCDA strategic plan.
  2. Manage and develop competent and committed Human Resource that is fully aware of its roles and responsibilities in accordance with the internal policies and procedures coupled with fostering of team spirit.
  3. Take the lead in the implementation and delivery of high-quality programmes in accordance with the LCDA strategic plan and related program designs. Ensure that monitoring, evaluation, documentation, learning and continuous improvements are an integral part of the implementation of each program in the LCDA operational areas.
  4. Lead the development and implementation of a resource mobilization strategy to support the aspirations and growth of LCDA.
  5. Ensure that all necessary agreements (or equivalent) are in place to ensure legal operations in the area.
  6. Ensure that Annual Operating Plans and Budgets (AOPBs) for LCDA are developed timely and budgets are spent according to approved AOPBs while observing and implementing strict internal financial controls.
  7. Ensure that audit ratings continuously improve, and audit findings are followed up and implemented properly in a timely manner.
  8. Build positive and productive contacts and relations within the community, district, provincial and national governments and donors.
  9. Build and manage relationships with other organizations to optimise marketing and grant funding opportunities for LCDA.
  10. Provide leadership in the efficient sponsorship management of LCDA.
  11. Advise LCDA Board on governance and administrative issues and act as a secretary to the Board.
  12. After appropriate discussions, undertake any duties delegated or assigned by the Board and or ChildFund in furtherance of LCDA goals

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • University degree in Development Studies, Social Work, Project Management, Business Administration, Education, Agriculture or any other social-economic development related qualification.  Post-graduate degree will be an added advantage.
  • Candidates must have at least five years working experience in a management position in a development orientated organization.
  • Candidates must demonstrate experience in programming, communication, financial management, human resource management and budgetary control
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experienced and skilled in resource mobilization and fund raising.
  • Open to new ideas and result-oriented person who would lead the organization to achieve its goals and objectives.
  • People management skills   and ability to drive the team to achieve set objectives with minimal supervision and with a good network with other organizations and government departments /ministries to acquire new ideas.
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good people management skills and team leadership
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
  • Tact and diplomacy
