Provincial Health Office, Western Province in conjunction with U.S Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been implementing programs to improve the management of TB, STIs and HIV/AIDS care services in the Province since 2006. To further strengthen the programs, WPHO is inviting applications from interested persons who meet the minimum requirements to fill the following vacant positions on contract basis subject to renewal:

JOB TITLE: LABORATORY PROGRAM OFFICER

LOCATION: Western Province

JOB PURPOSE: To support TB/HIV laboratory diagnostic services in the district.

Reports to: District Health Director 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILTY (MAIN DUTIES)

  • Manages movement of viral load, EID and TB samples using available courier system in order to reduce results turn-around time on patient laboratory investigations and consequently improve on clinical care.
  • Coordinates the Implementation of policy guidelines and adhere to Laboratory Quality
  • Management Systems (QMS) activities in order to provide accurate results as per guidelines.
  • Conducts routine program Monitoring and reviews to track progress towards set targets and for program implementation improvement.
  • Provides mentorship in various laboratory services in facilities in collaboration with the province.
  • Coordinates timely reporting and requisitioning of laboratory commodities to reduce stock outs and wastages.
  • Coordinates certification of HIV testers in accordance with the national certification program and maintains data base of the testers.
  • Performs Proficiency Testing (PT) of all HIV, Viral load, EID, CD4, GeneXpert, TB microscopy samples as required by statutory bodies.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 full certificate or equivalent
  • Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or higher Diploma from a recognized college or university.
  • Holder of HPCZ Full Registration, Valid Practicing License and member of biomedical society.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in a health/medical research organization.
  • Fluent in English, and local languages.
  • Good mentoring skills
  • Must between the Age of 21 years and 45years
  • Ability to manage time and competing demands to meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • problem solving
  • Good interpersonal and team building skills
  • Computer literate
