CAREER OPPORTUNITY
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the implementing agency of the Federal Republic of Germany for technical and international cooperation. It offers flexible, sustainable, and effective solutions in political, economic, and social change processes. Most of the work of GIZ is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GIZ also operates on behalf of other German ministries as well as public and private bodies in Germany and abroad. These include the European Commission, the United Nations, the World Bank, and governments of other countries.
The Food and Nutrition Security, Enhanced Resilience (FANSER) Project is part of the special global initiative called “Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems” which is implemented by GIZ and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). In line with the first 1000 Most Critical Days Program II, FANSER supports Kawambwa, Mwansabombwe and Mwense districts in Luapula in their efforts to improve the nutrition status.
The project operates in five action areas: (1) Increase knowledge about nutrition, change attitudes positively; (2) Increase knowledge about hygiene, change attitudes positively; (3) Increasing the year-round availability of nutrient-rich foods / nutrition-sensitive agriculture; (4) Households have developed strategies to manage their household and productive resources and (5) Strengthening nutrition governance at the district, provincial and national level. The project works together with various public and private implementing partners.
In this context, GIZ is seeking a suitable candidate to fill the following position:
Junior Nutrition Governance Advisor – (based in Kawambwa District, Luapula Province)

Main tasks and responsibilities:
- Supporting organizational development to District Nutrition Coordinating Committees (DNCCs)
- Supporting the exchange between DNCCs and the Provincial Nutrition Coordinating Committee (PNCC) as well as the National Food and Nutrition Committee (NFNC) to enable exploring, Learning, and documenting of good/best practices.
- Supporting the establishment and operationalization of Ward Nutrition Coordinating Committees (WNCCs) and Zonal Nutrition Coordinating Committees (ZNCC) in Kawambwa, Mwansabombwe and Mwense to enable the committees to fulfill their roles and responsibility-ties as outlined in the MCDP II.
- Prepare and plan all processes and logistics related to execution of events such as workshops, meetings, road shows, child health week, agricultural shows, Learning events etc.
- Supporting DNCCs in generating annual multisectoral work plans and quarterly reports.
- Supporting DNCCs in monitoring, coordination, and advocating for nutrition in line with the National Food and Nutrition Commission’s (NFNC) 1st 1000 Most Critical Days Programme phase II (MCDP II).
- Supporting the capacity building of DNCCs in budgeting processes and managing the acquisition of external funds.
- Providing Support to the M&E Advisor on all reporting aspects relating to nutrition governance.
- Maintaining good relations between the relevant stakeholders such as sector Ministries, District and Provincial Administration.
- Support the involvement of traditional leadership into project activities.
- Participate in sustainability taskforce activities.
- Providing support in the preparation and coordination of missions and studies
- Upon request by the project team, taking lead on selected thematic topics related to nutrition and food systems or other cross-cutting topics.
Other duties/additional tasks:
- Support preparation of any other events
- Support administrative processes, e.g., procurement.
- Shall assist and carry out other programme activities and tasks at the request of the program management.
- Support the creation of a database of images/videos of major project activities.
Required qualifications.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Social work, Development studies or Nutrition related degree
Professional experience
- At least 2 year’s professional experience (e.g., internships, volunteering) in the field of nutrition governance and rural development
- Good knowledge about food security and nutrition strategies, including MCDP II and SUN is an added advantage.
- Firsthand practical work experience with DNCCs or multisectoral nutrition projects is an advantage.
- Experience in the organization of events and good networking skills is an added advantage.
Other knowledge and additional competences:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Teams)
- Fluent written and excellent knowledge of English and Bemba
- Ability to work independently, effectively and target oriented.
- High level of analytical skills
- Willingness to learn skills as required by the tasks to be performed in agreement with management.
- Experience and willingness in riding a motorbike.
- Possession of a valid motor bike riding license obtained 2 years prior.
The successful candidate will be expected to start employment with GIZ, on a fixed term contract.
