MPower is a Swiss-based climate and fintech start-up that is revolutionizing energy access by providing small and medium-scale solar energy infrastructure in developing countries. Our innovative B2B model seamlessly integrates hardware, software, and financing solutions.
We launched our operations in Zambia in 2019. Since then, together with our partners, we have supplied thousands of customers with our solar systems. Our product range includes everything from small solar lamps to comprehensive solar home systems with matching appliances such as TVs, fans, and refrigerators, as well as large systems for SMEs. Recently, we have expanded our portfolio to include electric-powered vehicles, positioning us as one of the most innovative solar system providers in Africa.
We are currently active in seven African countries, with established local entities in 5 countries including Zambia, Cameroon, Togo, Ghana, and Namibia. Each market is managed by a dedicated local Country Team reporting to the Headquarters.
To further expand our global footprint, we are looking for an independent and entrepreneurial Head of Logistics based in one of the above mentioned african established entities. This is an exciting opportunity in a fascinating and rapidly growing field.
Position summary:
The Head of Logistics is responsible for overseeing the entire supply chain and Logistics activities within the group. This includes the preparation of purchasing and import documents, dashboard tracking, invoicing for shipments, and distribution. The role spans both back-office and front-office functions, requiring close collaboration with the Head of Product Sourcing, Head of Sales and field teams, as well as with distribution partners and customers. Reporting to the COO, this position is pivotal in the global supply chain and distribution operations.

How you contribute to our goal:
Manage purchasing
Collaborate with the Head of Products Sourcing to source and purchase solar products and other necessary appliances for the business.
Monitor market trends and price fluctuations to ensure the best value for money.
Ensure timely delivery of products by tracking shipments to confirm they arrive on schedule.
Work in tandem with the Global Head of Sales to align logistics strategies with sales objectives, ensuring seamless operations and customer satisfaction.
Track customer feedback, ensure satisfaction, handle returns, maintain communication, collaborate on after-sales processes, and conduct post-sales surveys to gauge satisfaction.
Manage the Import process
partnering with the Head of Products Sourcing to find and assess reliable suppliers of high-quality solar products and appliances, establishing a strong network of suppliers to meet the company’s standards.
Coordinate shipments, arrange transportation, handle documentation, and ensure customs compliance.
Stay up-to-date with the latest import regulations and work closely with customs brokers to ensure a smooth and efficient importation process.
Monitor import progress, track shipments, and address any issues.
Build and maintain effective collaboration and coordination with suppliers, customs officials, and internal stakeholders.
Track the inventory’ dashboard
Collaborate closely with field teams to ensure regular updates to the inventory and sales dashboards, providing a clear overview of product stocks.
Monitor and analyze data to gain insights from the dashboard, identifying trends and patterns in customer preferences and purchasing behavior.
Use dashboard data and analysis to forecast stock provisions, optimize product quality, and enhance customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
Masters degree or MBA in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field.
Professional certification such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD) is a plus.
Accreditation as import agent would be an asset;
Prior experience within the Solar/renewable Energy industry in Africa;
Experience in managing medium to large team with remote supervision;
Experience in import management involving strong collaboration with customs authorities.
Experience
Minimum of 6 years in logistics operations management, with at least 4 years in a senior leadership role.
Proven track record of managing logistics operations on a global scale, including experience with international shipping, customs regulations, and global supply chain strategies.
Strong leadership skills with experience in building and leading diverse teams across multiple locations.
Experience in developing and implementing logistics strategies that align with overall business goals.
Demonstrated ability to manage large budgets and optimize costs while maintaining high service levels.
Working knowledge of logistics and supply chain management software, or similar systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex logistics challenges.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels; English proficiency is required and French is a plus.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
Additional skills
Experience in managing large-scale logistics projects from inception to completion.
Strong understanding of customer needs and the ability to develop logistics solutions that enhance customer satisfaction.
Knowledge of sustainable logistics practices and the ability to implement eco-friendly initiatives.
