Zambart is an independent Zambian research organization whose headquarters is at the University of Zambia’s Ridgeway Campus in Lusaka. Zambart is globally renowned for its interdisciplinary research on HIV and Tuberculosis and has contributed to HIV and TB policy and practice at national and global levels. Zambart’s research portfolio now includes a broader scope of urgent public health issues.
Zambart staff form an interdisciplinary team with a range of expertise including epidemiology, clinical science, social science, laboratory, operations research, health systems and services research, health policy analysis, health economics, health communication and counselling.
To support our wide range of research activities, we are looking for an ambitious, suitably qualified candidate to fill the following exciting positions that have arisen:
Position: Head of Human Resources
Reporting To: Chief Operations Officer
Job Location: Lusaka
Duration: Two (2) years contract, start date May 2024
Position Summary
The Head of Human Resources is responsible for all human resources management of the organisation and is the chief advisor to management on all matters relating human resources management. The job holder will work closely and within the senior leadership team.
Roles and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Setting objectives and strategies for the human resources team that align with the organisation’s overall objectives.
- Promoting organizational values and nurture a positive organizational culture that supports high performance.
- Promoting employee well-being and satisfaction to enhance productivity and good morale.
- Principal advisor to management on all matters relating to human resources management at Zambart.
- Representing the organization on human resources and personnel management matters at different fora.
- Ensuring compliance to local and international labour laws and regulations, including the Zambia Employment Code Act of 2019, Workman’s Compensation, and other labour related statutory requirements.
- Developing and delivering training and inductions on organisational policies, procedures and other relevant topics.
- Developing, reviewing, and implementing the Zambart policies and procedures on recruitment, reward, retention, and release of staff.
- Leading and promoting staff relations, and health & safety at work.
- Reviewing and implementing the performance appraisal management system.
- Staff Payroll management
- Act as an objective liaison person between staff and management.
- Maintaining personnel records
- Preparing and communicating job descriptions to all staff.
- Organising work permits for visiting and expatriate staff.
- Flexibility to undertake any other tasks as required.
Person specifications
- Degree in Human Resources management, Public Administration, Business Administration or equivalent.
- A member of the Zambia Institute of Human Resources Management (ZIHRM).
- Minimum 5 years demonstratable senior management work experience, preferably in NGOs.
- Ability to work independently as well as manage and lead a successful team.
- Proven-people management and interpersonal skills including being comfortable with working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent and proven written and spoken English language skills.
- Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programmes (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other personnel management software.
