VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Title:  GRANTS WRITER

Department Name: RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATIONS
Reports to:  RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
Cross Functional Reports to: NATIONAL DIRECTOR

Position Summary:

Reporting to the RDC Manager, the Grants Writer will actively write and develop FOI grant proposals for HFH Zambia. He/She will develop coherent, organised, and compelling proposals to meet the goals and objectives of HFH Zambia’s strategy. The Grants Writer will apply knowledge of fundraising methods and plans to reach income goals. In addition to HFH Zambia’s RDC Manager, HFHI RD and GFOI colleagues, He/She will also collaborate with MEAL Specialist; Policy and Advocacy Specialist; WASH Specialist, Project Managers for input and information needed in the development of the grant proposals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead in the development of proposals responding to high priority new business opportunities from bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies, private foundations or private sector corporations
  • Convene and chair proposal design meetings as needed and provide the necessary coordination.
  • Support research and identification of grant funding opportunities aligned to HFH Zambia strategic framework in strong collaboration with GFOI and RD.
  • Proactively coordinate with MEAL and Budget Unit to align the proposed staff, activities, and interventions with the development of a compliant and competitive budget and cost proposal using the HFHI standardized tools.
  • Support the identification and contracting of technical consultants as needed
  • Coordinate processes and tools in strong collaboration with GFOI and
  • Furnishing prospective funders with supporting documents in collaboration with HFHI stakeholders
  • Maintaining proficient knowledge of organisation’s history and programmes
  • Developing relationships and collaborating with key internal stakeholders.

Success Criteria:

  • Number of proposals written.
  • Number of proposals submitted successfully.
  • Number of grants awarded.
  • Number of new donors in pipeline.
  • Ability to build the capacity of the HFH Zambia team to develop strong proposals; and
  • Level of  fundraising information sources knowledge.

Typical Training & Experience:

Minimum:

  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in English, Development Studies, Social Work, Marketing, Research, Communication or any relevant field of study.

Years of Related Experience: Over 5 years grant writing experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of proposal and donor funding requirements and the ability to apply that knowledge in preparing project proposals.
  • An excellent proven track record in institutional funding including a demonstrable track record of developing winning concepts and proposals to institutional donors.
  • Ability to proactively generate and co-create “new business” opportunities that lead to strategic funding.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with both funders and partners
  • Proficient with measuring and reaching income goals.

Qualifications:

Preferred – in addition to minimum:

  • Non – Profit Management and Creative Writing.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, coaching, and mentoring skills
  • Displaying adherence to organisation’s mission.
  • Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel.
  • Ability to research and make use of the collected data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong people skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines

Working Conditions:

40 hours of work per week, with one hour lunch break and 2 health breaks of 20 minutes each in a day.
