About Zambian Carnivore Programme:
The Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP) is a non-governmental, non-profit field-based organization- dedicated to conserving large carnivores and ecosystems in Zambia and the broader region since 2008. Our mission is to conserve Zambia’s large carnivores and the ecosystems they reside in through science, action and strengthening local leadership. We work tirelessly to secure funding that supports our conservation efforts and are seeking a passionate Grants Manager to join our team.
Job Summary:
The Grants Manager plays a critical role in the Zambian Carnivore Programme, responsible for identifying, securing, and managing grants to support our conservation initiatives. This position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and a passion for conservation. The Grants Manager will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Operations Officer (COO) to ensure the organization’s funding needs are met and that grant funds are managed efficiently and effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Grant Research and Identification:
- Research and identify potential grant opportunities from governmental agencies, foundations, and other sources that align with the organization’s mission and programs.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of grant opportunities, deadlines, and requirements.
- Provide regular updates to the COO and CEO on upcoming opportunities and reporting requirements.
2. Proposal Development and submission:
- Prepare high-quality grant proposals, including budgets, narratives, and supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with program staff to gather relevant information and ensure proposals are aligned with project goals and objectives.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of grant applications.
- Monitor and track application status and follow up as needed.
3. Compliance and Reporting:
- Oversee grant compliance and reporting requirements, ensuring that all obligations are met and well-documented by reports and media.
- Compile information from internal monthly reports, and work closely with the Site Managers, Media Manager, Finance team, and COO to obtain information on relevant activities, achievements, challenges, and media.
- Complete high quality grant reports for review by the COO and CEO.
- With the Finance team, monitor grant-related expenditures and report on financial performance.
4. Relationship Management:
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with grant-making organizations, including individual donors, institutional program officers, and government agency contacts.
- Keep funders informed about the organization’s progress and impact.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., environmental science, nonprofit management, business).
- Proven track record of successful international grant applications and awards, preferably in the nonprofit or conservation sector.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Familiarity with and commitment to environmental and conservation issues.
